Default GT3RS Factory Half Cage

As a follow up to an earlier post, I had my 997 CF seats adjusted to the lower setting -- now they are absolutely perfect -- snug, but extremely comfortable, dare I say even more comfortable than the OEM sports seats. Really.

I am now about to put in the factory half cage. But Pete Stout's article in the most recent issue of Excellence, where he describes the "incessant noise" generated by the half cage in the K1, has me spooked.

1. For those who have the cage into their cars (whether factory installed (non-US) or installed after-the-fact), do you experience creaks/pings/rattles?

2. Do you know if factory installed cages were powder coated or painted?

Good to hear that about the seats. I also think that once you're sitting in them, they are more comfortable than the sports seats.

Mine is factory installed and it does creak and groan from time to time. It's painted and not powdercoated AFAIK.

paint is easier to match the bar to your car.
powder coating is very hard to control final color, but you could get lucky.

if the installer is good, bar will not creak.

My cage came factory fitted. I had it removed after a few weeks because I wanted to use the rear seat area, but I don't remember the cage being noisy (although it doesn't surprise me that it could be). Pretty sure it's painted. Mine is a 996, so YMMV.

The buckets really are more comfortable than the sport seats, particularly the 996 ones which are a tad wider than the 997's. And if I had 997 buckets, I'd move the belt receptacle to the outside of the seat. That buckle really annoyed me, but then I am a bit wider of midriff than I would like.

Mine is powder coated, dealer installed and no creaks or rattles. It is just a GT3, not an RS - not sure if that would make a difference.

porschemeister,

You mentioned weld plates.

Did your factory rear half cage come with factory mounting plates, which some USA GT3RS would need (the cars that didn't come with the factory mounting plates), but some USA GT3RS (the ones that came with mounting plates) wouldn't need them?

Do your weld plates have a Porsche part number?

thanks

I had the plates made. They are exactly like the factory plates. Not too much to them, a 3/16" plate with countersunk holes and three bolts
