DIY Oil Change with Pics
#32
Thanks for bumping this. It never ceases to inspire me when people post about taking a wrench to their GT3. It's awesome stuff in a day and age when few people work on their own cars; and all cars are getting steadily more difficult for laymen to lay hands on (gotta take off the plastic cowls first). The most amazing DIY to me I read recently was swapping the LSD, though in reality it's actually a fairly accessible part.

Helping a buddy change the oil on his 2011GT3 soon, this DIY thread still appy? I've changed oil on 997.1 & 997.2's & wanna make sure I help him do it right since it's a diff block. Plan on looking in manual for capacity & torque specs.
Thanks

He came over today. Thanks to this DIY for helping us get his 997.2 GT3 oil changed. Here's a couple photos
Shot of his motor
Drain on passenger side of motor. Made a huge mess when oil came out, otherwise was a very smooth DIY
Thanks

Bumping this very old thread. I am about to do my first oil change since having the car in my possession (997.1 RS). In speaking with a very experienced Porsche wrench about the parts list he mentioned that he does not use a copper sealing ring on the oil tank because the amount of torque needed to crush the copper sealing ring for proper sealing is too high in his opinion, particularly in light of the fact that the threaded nut is welded onto the tank and not ideally engineering to withstand high torque (counter-holding it with a wrench notwithstanding). He uses the same aluminum sealing ring as is used for the crank case for the tank. Thought I'd pass this along.
