Also, where can you find Mobil 1 full syn 0 - 40 oil?

I order my stuff from Suncoast porsche. They give a good price and are always very helpful.

Here, mobil 1 0-40 can be found at lots of auto places. Just call the auto stores in your area before you head out.

i put too much oil in and now need to drain about 1/2 qt out. is there an easier way than getting under car and opening drain plug?

siphon off with turkey baster seems easy but cant reach from filler opening down to tank. any ideas.

Loosen the plug, so that oil is just dripping out. Go watch some football and then re-tighten.

I did my oil last week. My manual says 9.5 us quarts seams full ok. this DIY is saying 8.5 anyone do this in the 997-3

Mine took almost 9qt. exactly. I did let it drain for several hours though.

seattle_sun, thanks for the DIY. Is this for a 996? I asked Downtown LA Porsche if I needed to drain both the engine case and oil tank on my 2003 996 Targa and they said no?

update: i just noticed this is for a GT2/3. sorry forget i asked! thanks again.

If you have both drain both. The oil tank would not drain through the case. If it looks like the pic's in this DIY then you are good to go.

Torque specs from manual, for those questioning the values.

crankcase drain plug. 70 N m (52 lb-ft)

oil tank drain plug. 60 N m (44 lb-ft)

I use 40 lb-ft of torque on both and never a problem.

Agreed that 52 lb-ft on the crankcase feels like overkill. just one impt. note when doing the drain plug on the tank be sure to put an open end wrench on the bolt welded to the tank, the tank is thin and need that support.
