if you can get a set of seat backs and bottoms from someone who removed them out of a 997 or a dismantler for about $1K, about $2K total with all of the other bits

The total weight add is 28lbs

Rear seats in, backs and all.

Added almost 30lbs but definitely increases the time I get to spend in the car.
Tonight, the four of us go out to dinner... in the GT3

looks like my daughter may still need a small booster to fit properly

Perfect, did you do the install yourself? How hard was it?

yes, did it myself.
not too hard once the parts were sourced. Finding used seats was tough

The outboard seat back bracket is not available via Porsche.
the good news is that the 996 bracket is the same as the 997. Sourcing them from a dismantler was easy once I figured that out.

as always, doing it again would be much faster and easier. There were a few key learnings along the way... Cutting into the rear interior panels was a little worrisome... They are $800 each for "leatherette" versions so I really didn't want to screw it up.

most challenging was installing and properly positioning the seat back brackets.
once I had all of the pieces, it was a matter of test fitting before installing them

I have seen the seat belts installed but not backs. the brackets for seat backs are they bolt in or weld in? i thought they were welded. what dismantler do you recommend and since there is no part number how do you request said brackets?

thanks

good questions!
The brackets are spot welded in the standard 996/997 tub (11 welds).
You can weld them in but I decided to go a different route.
I used rivets in place of the spot welds and added 3M automotive panel adhesive (a very strong epoxy used in body work). They are very solid and "at one with" the car now

I have some photos of the pieces... see below. Other than describing what you are looking for, pics are the best route. All of the dismantlers I talked to knew what I was looking for when I asked.

Parts Heaven, DC automotive, Oklahoma Foreign are all good ones to try. I ended up getting mine from Oklahoma Foreign. <$200 for the pair... and you are mostly paying for them to cut them out of the car.

You simply drill out the spot welds to separate the bracket from the tub material they are welded to.

The white car is mine, the silver is a shot I got of a 997 coupe from another RLer

Thanks!
I had to have the seat backs. My kids are too big for the child seat route

looking at doing this to a 2010 gt3. just read on another post that the tub may be different and not have the mounts. Does anyone know if this is true? Doesnt really make sense they would change it but would like to know?

This thread is fantastic. But I'd take it one step further...no wing. Putting the rear seats in is excellent because I enjoy taking the fam in the 911. Good job fellas.

Great job Mark. Sourcing that side bracket must have been a PITA. I gave up when I did mine. Glad you were able to figure it out for the other folks.
