rebuild shocks?
 

Is it possible to have the original shocks rebuilt? I am starting to get the front end squeak after warm up. I try to do 1-2 HPDE weekends a year but mostly do back road runs. Car has 47,000 miles. I may install the DSC controller down the road. I'm not the person to tinker with shock settings or alignments so it seems stock makes the most sense to me.

From what I understand Bilstein no longer offers a rebuild service on the original shocks. I replaced mine with their OE+ option, B16 Damptronics. They're a bit stiffer up than the originals but I'm happy with them and the PASM button works as normal.

Performance Shock Inc in Sonoma CA can rebuild the factory PASM Bilsteins. I was quoted minimum $450 per shock and ~4 weeks turnaround time.

I believe they are the only shop in the country offering this service.

I'm not sure if he services the newer 997 stuff, but Glenn Yee Motorsports in Cali did my 996 gt3 Bilstein's. Did a great job but it was NOT a quick turnaround, so if you don't want your car off the road for an extended period of time you may be better off sourcing a used set and sending those off to be rebuilt so at least your car is drivable in the interim.

2k for a rebuild? You can get a pretty killer aftermarket suspension.

I don't think you're getting anything killer for shocks at $2k.

I paid 2k for rebuild Ohlins before switching to MCS.

good price, ok but not new. I assume the MCS were a lot more. Online were R&T? or TTX?

Rebuilt isn't new either :D Yeah, RT, I don't think TTX was out yet. I just checked my MCS invoice and they were about 5k.

I paid about 800 per shock for replacement oem shock from porsche. Long wait time however during christmas. More than 1 month

I went to the local dealer to look at getting replacement shocks today. Porsche does not have them as a complete unit which is how most aftermarket brands sell them. The price of all the parts combined for just the rears was over $5,000 before the generous 10% discount for PCA. My question is do all of the parts need replacing? Actually, as I look at the quote, just the shocks is over $2,500 making it $5,000 a car. Not sure where to go from here but $10,000 is not an option and I'm not sure $5,000 for just the shocks makes sense either.

Where to go from here? PSI Is where I'd be heading.

Yup, I was in the exact same situation as you a couple weeks back. The OEM suspension (especially the .1) is nothing to write home about and I couldn't justify paying $1k per damper without springs given their performance. Had Ohlins R&T installed this week and while I only have a couple of drives on it so far I've been impressed. Went ahead and ordered new OEM top mounts all around as well.

Will likely be listing my DSC for sale in the near future.

My stock shocks need replacement and I'm also doing Ohlins R/T.

How do you deal with PASM?
