New .1 RS owner
Hi All,
I just recently pulled the trigger on a 2007 RS pumpkin with 27k miles and only two different owners (original owner bought the car twice). The car passed the PPI with flying colors. Only thing it could use are new frunk struts and a new cup holder assembly. The DME showed zero over revs in all ranges, and no stored fault codes of any kind. The only non-original part on the car is a front lip spoiler which I assume is pretty common with these cars being that they are much lower than the other variants.
I came from the 997 GTS (PDK) and 993 (6MT) world. The GTS was my first 911 and I really enjoyed the car, except that it was a PDK. I never wanted to admit it to myself, but I just never really felt connected to the car because I so badly wanted to row the gears. That’s partly what prompted the purchase of the 993 - I wanted a much more raw/analog feeling car to DRIVE. After getting the 993, I always had an affinity toward driving it over the GTS because it provided more of the feeling I was wanting for street driving. For the track, and as an inexperienced driver, I drove the GTS. And I’m happy that I had a PDK as it allowed me to focus more on braking and turning and not going off track.
Anyways, I’ve been lurking in this forum for a while, but there’s a ton that I need to learn about these cars still. Before I have the car transported to me, I’m planning on having the coolant lines welded, water pump replaced, rear main seal replaced (currently not leaking, just slightly damp), drive belt replaced and possibly install a new clutch plate if necessary. I know all about the slippery slope of the “while you’re in there”, but I’m wondering if there’s anything else that would be a good idea to have done while the engine is dropped? I don’t have an unlimited budget for this work, so I’d like to keep it to only the things that are a must.
I’m really excited and really looking forward to becoming an active member in this forum. Any advice or suggestions any of you might have for a new owner of one of these incredible cars is welcomed. Btw, I do like to wrench on my own cars when possible, so I’m also interested in the typical mods that are common for these cars (exhaust, motor mounts, wheels/tires, LSD, brakes, etc.)

Congrats. Excellent choice. You won't regret it unless you sell it Ask anything here and you'll get THE answer. I was recently sent a link to a post I made nearly 20 years ago. Now enjoy. And congrats again! JBO

Congrats on the purchase. My favorite .1 GT3RS color combo.
Coolant lines and RMS would be the two main things. Tons of other items that people do but many of them are not necessary. Or they are just nice to have.
I would do a Sharkwerks or GMG exhaust. I have Sharkwerks, but I think a couple of people have mentioned you may get a bit more down low sound with the GMG. If you wanted to try and get power gains from an exhaust, go with a full Dundon system with headers. That should get you some decent power.
I recommend reading through this article for other ideas, Sharkwerks has these cars really figured out. https://www.sharkwerks.com/tuning-gu...t3rs-2007-2008

Bxstr, thanks for the info. Exhaust will probably be one of the first things I tackle. I’ve always had Fabspeed center pipes on my other 911’s, but I’m definitely open to other options... especially since I haven’t seen/read much about people running Fabspeed on these cars.
I would find a used Sharkwerks or GMG on here. Or potentially just pick up a new Sharkwerks. I am planning to get the larger Sharkwerks tips too for mine.

+1 for the GMG Exhaust & GMG RSR Roll bar. That is literally the only mods I have on my car. 8yrs of ownership. Can't fix perfection.

While engine is out have the 2 plastic coolant elbows (they take coolant to/from oil cooler) replaced with the metal ones from Sharkwerks.
Good idea to replace coolant expansion tank also, they can develop cracks over time.
