Cutting rear shelf carpet for Clubsport cage
 

Anyone have a perfectly cut carpet for sale (that was cut for a Clubsport cage) or could advise me on the best technique on how to do this?

I have a cut rear carpet kicking around my garage...but have no idea what half cage it was cut for.....purchased years ago and never installed in my first 997.2 GT3

I can dig it out and send photos....perhaps it my work for you as is, or modify to suit...without cutting your original.

I used hole saw and cordless drill. It cuts nice round hole. Just measure carefully where to drill.:burnout: FVD price for a new carpet doesn't seem too bad though.

I purchased the factory carpet for cars with clubsport cage. It's not that expensive in the scheme of things and is the cleanest finish. The cutouts are not the same perfect circle, as the drivers side is more of an elongated cutout.

Tye is spot on. Buy the factory cut carpet. You won't regret it. The carpet piece is very hard to cut. And I've never seen a home cut piece that doesn't look like very bad hack job. Or skip it and sell me your Clubsport bar. I'm interested. Hope you are well.

Yeah, the OP's question was how to cut the carpet so..
For the drivers side you cut two holes with the hole saw and connect the holes by cutting with sharp knife. It's really not that difficult..;)

Jamila looks great. And I should have added a caveat. I'm sure any project on our cars can be accomplished in our garage by a skilled individual. That's one of the many reasons I bought a 997, However I change roll bars as often as you change seats and I've obtained many 'horrible hack jobs when the carpet was oop. The run that FVD is offering is available because Rhonda was kind enough to go directly to the OEM and ask them to build a run. I appreciate that talented folks can do it themselves. And you are talented, Tye is talented etc. However every DYI job I've seen looked like sh@t. JBO

I cut my own for a BBI bar. I measured a bunch of times and cut the slit and used a hole saw as mentioned above. You just have to remember to drill the hole at an angle and remove some of the harder pieces of the styrofoam like material. Mine does not look like a hack job whatsoever.

Yeah that looks great. I'm just relaying my experience. I would also suggest Coop look at the bottom not just the top. That's where they look like a hack job. I know it can't be seen from above but I know what it looks like. The underside of the oem piece leven ooks fairly rough just by nature of the drilling and cutting. However I'll stand by my personal experience with all of the three or four I've seen. The back sides were a mix of horrors. JBO

Coop, The other reason to buy another one with holes is you preserve your original. That way if you want to part out the bar when you sell the car you don't have to run around looking for a carpet with no holes. Its just the same thing in reverse. Your Clubsport bar is worth the effort to remove. They don't make them anymore. JBO

I cut my original one to install the OEM Clubsport bar, however earlier this year I committed to returning the car to stock and then selling the car.. which all went to sh*t, I've decided to keep it.

During that process, I bought a new OEM piece (no holes) and whilst it looks great and all that, there is a ever so slight variance in the colour, since my car has seen lots of time in the sun, the UV has degraded the colour enough (on the rest of the interior carpets) to cause a visual difference in shade. For that reason alone, I'd advise that you preserve your original uncut carpet and buy the OEM one cut (or a good used)...
