The GT3 was my first Porsche and first 911. When i was ready to buy, i did exhaustive, almost insane research on what the perfect 911 was for me. It’s lived up to expectations so far despite being 12 years old now! And I still have it and have no intention of parting with it

My first Porsche was a 2007 turbo. I spent a lot of money on improved handling and sound. At the end, it was still too soft and the sound of the GT3 was still so much better. So I sold for a 997.1 GT3 and since move up to 997.2 GT3. I'll never go back to the turbo.

Shop mechanic will tell you there is a big difference between owners of turbos vs GT. Turbo owners are less social and snobs, more likely to document existing conditions and mileage before leaving the car. Less relationships and trust. GT3 owners more social and trusting and will drop their car off with track rubber and dirt on it and say get it ready for this weekend.

Shhhh Runner ... there are some sensitive Turbo owners lurking here.. let's not offend their feelings ... apparently we can't handle the power from Turbos (despite that the it's front wheels doing all the "handling" for them)...

I know frequent my local track often.
Was yours under the Audi tent at the last PBOC event? If so, I was digging it, especially the 3.9 sticker! Was telling a few friends with different makes under that tent that they should buy a real track car, "like that one".

That was me my friend. I also have a r8 but nothing is more fun than a SW 3.9 on track.

Marc and Steve --- Thank you - those are the kindest and most reassuring words I've heard. I think the TTS is the right choice for me right now. It fits the way I use the car - more likely to go on a date than a track day.

For sure though - if I wanted to track a GT3 would be the way to go. I doubt I'll ever have the skill to put a GT2 to use.

JRTaylor- GT3... Yes - Mexico Blue... Yes - Steering wheel placement??? - NO! This would mess with my hard wired brain way too much.

But next time I come to London - maybe we could go for a ride and I'll buy chicken biryani at Zam Zam in Houslow - awesome food and crazy cheap - long lines though.

Steve - the car was a stretch for me. I did save up for it and had my heart set on it for more than a year. Also had to part with my C4S cab to make it happen. There was a lucky confluence of opportunity and ability - rare in my opinion and even more rare in my life.

It's funny - about 3 months before I got the car I started telling people that one day I would have it and ultimately luck prevailed. (some kind of funky Tony Robbins mojo working here) Josh and Matt at Avant Garde told me that no less than 20 people tried to buy the car out from under me between Saturday when the car went up and I bit first and Tuesday when I flew in to Portland. It's a big plus that they are honorable and honest sellers as well as Josh being an exceptional photographer.

"Yes" I told him, I buckled him in the back seat, went around to the drivers side and sat in the car very satisfied and happy that my son had a 'cool dad'.

Now I know at the age of 3, he's not capable of complex thought, nor of precise comedic timing but in that moment of contentment right before I started the car, I thought I heard him say "I'm not going to college am I?"

And that's the reason I don't have both.

Yet.

No one paid for my college (and I never finished), so I don't pay for my kids college and I own 4 Porsche's. Just thought I would throw that out there.....

Haha.. +1 here, never finished, don't know what student debt is (not that I don't have sympathy for those that do). Had a "School of hard knocks" sticker on the back of my car for a while until I noticed that people get very angry over seeing that on a GT3 so I took it off.
