I've always loved this car, but how much would I miss the GT3?

I have 2 of them. 1 2011 twin turbo gated manual. 2017 supercharged. great cars to pair with a gt3

I've driven the both the first and second gens a few laps each around a racetrack. I love the engine! But the rest of the experience does not compare with my 997.2 GT3. The steering and chasis have far less feedback than the Porsche. But Audi makes a quality vehicle that looks and sounds great.

Any variation of the gen 1 R8, manual, R or S tronic are not replacements of any 997 GT3. The GT3 is faster under 100mph, its way more agile, provides a Motorsport and raw driving experience the R8 can't match. I only see the R8 as a add on as a daily driving supercar. You can add a tune(40+whp), exhaust and rear wheel drive conversion to make a fun road car, but the weight and softness of the chassis just can't match the GT3.

Seems like an 'AND" car, not an "OR" car

This is where I come out. I've toyed with the idea of getting an older, high mileage manual R8 for a daily driver, but I don't know enough about their reliability. Plus, prices are still too high for me to pull the trigger. Now if I could get one for under $60K....

thanks for all the responses folks. i think this ^^ sums it up. if i had the space in the garage i would love to have it as a daily. AND not OR.

Those failures only happen to early cars before 2011. Any cars after 2011 fixed this issue as they have welded plate.

Only one experience with an R8-10 at Las Vegas Speedway driving the California Exotics 4-car package. I came away with the opinion that it pushed horribly (understeered) to the point of 'plowing' - just couldn't get it to take the line I wanted. Not terrifying or anything, just couldn't get it to turn. I am by no means a racer or even an advanced street driver, but I did race TZ250s in years gone by, and I know what sliding tires feel like. The other three cars were all better in this regards (MB SLS with V12, Porsche Cayman R, and a Nissan GTR. The brakes were horrible on this particular Cayman, the Mercedes was a heck of a lot more impressive than I suspected considering the length of that nose, and the damn GTR worked the best of the four (I did not want this to be the case). The Audi was very cool, but in the final analysis, and with these particular vehicles, the Audi R8 sucked at entering corners.

My Dad has had one since 2010. Great looking car. I have several thousand miles on it including track time. I'm not a fan although I love the looks but my issue is that it drives extremely numb. My daily M3 is more exciting. All that said, his has been extremely reliable with about 40k on it.. No issues, just the ones I would have with it, which to me makes it a no go...

Drive one, but it is no replacement for your GT3. If you are adding it as a daily then that's another story.
