go for it. one ticket to the dance. if you really dont like it sell and get another 7 rs. igooz. I like that saying and very true. but most 991 buyers after your done will be pointy shoe guys and wont care anyway. gett a cool personal plate like "swaparoo" and send it down the road when your done.

Dude..... DO NOT get rid of a 997 for a 991.1. I could maybe see if you did it for a 991.2 since the motor is much improved and Motorsports DNA.

I am sorry, I didn’t mean to be so biased. I like the pointy shoe comment thing , I wear Cat boots.
I do like the OP’s car.

I should have known this would turn into a 997/991 battle. Trust me, I know what I have in my car. It’s a gem and I know the heritage. I have already owned a 991 GT3. I went to the 997 because I was well aware of its legendary status. I love the damn thing and have done plenty to it and drove the beast from MN to Rennsport. The three motivating factors for considering the change. Longer drives/trips where I can actually speak to my gal without yelling I’m hitting the dreaded mileage mark 17k where I can’t get enough value if I move on to another car. And I want to start putting more track miles on. I have tendency to think I can come back to another 7.2RS later if I need to. First world issues of a one car guy. Appreciate the constructive feedback, keep it coming. I have a tendency to agree on the motor/story feedback of the 991RS I am considering. It’s not just about this particular RS. There are a ton of 991 cars to choose from...

Thats aggressive, I like it...

I know we spent a long time talking about this,... and I was really trying to be nice during that conversation.....

.......... and as sad as it would be, to see your 7.2 3RS head to another home,... I do agree with the idea of moving to a 991.2 RS, rather than the .1

..................... That 4.0 should be your target. And maybe you even stay with the MT? .... I'm willing to bet your resale down the road will hold up better too

Both the .1 and .2 RS have a 4.0. It's the GT3 which went from a 3.8 to a 4.0.

See above.

Mr. Adair: What's so special about this particular RS you're looking at? Is it discounted significantly? Reason I ask is because there's tens, if not hundreds of 991.1 RS for sale, none of which have an engine replacement story. I can't fathom why anyone would give consideration to a storied RS unless it was a rare PTS car or had some CXX options you were crazy about.

And my opinion: Go for it (though maybe look for an RS without a story). I went through a similar internal debate a couple of months ago (GT3 was getting up there in miles, was way too loud and harsh to enjoy on longer drives, etc.) and ultimately took the bait and went for the 991.1 RS and haven't looked back since. Not once have I driven the RS and wished I was in my old GT3. YMMV.

Good luck!

Wanta997:

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate your position because you dealt with the same quandary. I just updated my post above. It’s not just about this particular RS. The price is right on this car and on my car that’s why. That said, I’m not locked into this car. I completely agree, over 140 .1RS’s to chose from on the market now. Many below MSRP. Actually dozens in the low to mid 180’s. Process continues..

Thanks again-

Forget a swapped motor if its not heavely discounted. Too many fine examples to choose from .

Also if you really want a 991 go for it. Just know it might Be tough to come back into the 997 fold if u decide especially if you want an aqua car. At the end of the day its only money. Money we can make but time we can not.

Holy Sh$%!! Very cool that you have pointed that out for me. All these years of wanting a GT3 (wife & I wanted a non-RS,.. and it had to be Aqua Blue),... and I NEVER knew that the 991.1 RS had the new solid lift cam 4.0 motor in it!

Geezus, where the heck was I !!!!
Thanks WantA997

If you really need to try the newer stuff (RS) go for it. Life is short. I would find one with no questions though as too many other out there. Good luck with your decision.

Too easy for me to say keep 997 RS as I also have 991.2 3 in the garage. It is not an RS but is still different enough to the 997 as you know. I just prefer manuals. I'm old fashioned I guess. LOL

Gen 991.1RS is 4.0 liter but not solid lift cam. Solid lift cam is in the new .2RS and the new GT3 both 4.0.

I think I have that right. It’s why everybody calls it the Motorsports motor...

If you weren't happy with your 991.1 GT3, I doubt you'll be happy with the .1 RS. Now, a Touring would be a different proposition, one that you should seriously consider. That 6 speed is so refined and delicious that I think about it at work, eating lunch, eating dinner, and before going to sleep.
