997.2 vs 991.1 GT3RS
Was hoping to get some good opinions here. I've been Porscheless now for almost two years since I sold my GT2. While I'm happy with what I currently have I certainly miss the Porsche experience. I'm thinking of buying an RS but am struggling to decide between the 997.2 and 991.1 GT3RS. Aside from the obvious, manual vs PDK, I was hoping to pick some brains from this informative bunch! I've driven neither but have had a 996 GT3 and 997 GT2. Never had an RS!
Thanks!
I've posted this identical thread in the 991 forum as well

At the end of the day, do you like the PDK or do you want a manual. I wanted the last 3RS with a manual, so bought a 997.2. I have a 991.2 3RS coming though. I plan on keeping both.
With that being said, if I could only own 1 car of the two you asked, I would probably buy the 991.1. I like PDK and the 991.1 is cheaper to buy and newer which means likelihood of less maintenance. Also get the 10 year engine warranty which is a big deal IMHO. Good luck. Both are great cars.

IMO just from a driving perspective.
997 is more analog, has fantastic steering, manual transmission, and more of an event to drive even at slower speeds.
991 is very fast and capable, good steering, but at slower speeds its kind of boring. If you're not going really fast its just not as engaging and fun to drive.

I agree with the above sentiments, I also had a 997 gt2 and miss it.... I think the turbo addiction and that low-end torque makes any gear rather fun but, I currently have a 50th anniversary in the 991 platform is extremely planted, stable and it does require higher speeds to really enjoy.
I bought 8997.1 GT three And although it doesn’t have overall power of the GT two, the drive is much more engaging/exciting… You have to pay attention to keep it on the road at times it has classic 997 size/feel/steering and in my opinion the best looking of the water cooled cars
i’ve been keeping an eye out for that 997 GT three rs market and I just don’t see them dropping much and value over the next several years given low production numbers.
The new 991 GT three manual almost felt too soft, meaning you could live with it daily wheras the 997 is a focused Memorable event such as the weekend drive which suits my purpose well as I have other choices in the garage

different cars, different feel. it really depends on what you want. for me, it's the stick shift and analog experience all the way. money wise, the 997 will hold its value while the 991 will drop.

I'm selling my. 1 next week. getting a 19rs in may
.... so we will see. I'm mixed on selling the .1. but between a new Harley and a few fox body mustang's (my early 20s dream.. lol. ).. I only put 2000km on my gt3 last summer. so hopefully new rs us the hot ticket.... or I guess I'll be selling and getting a 10 11 rs.

Based on your current car lineup (and previously owned), I think you'll be happier with the 997. The 991 is certainly the quicker car, but as others have said, the 997 has the more special/connected feel. And if you need to blast around in something faster, you've got the 675LT.

Thanks for these inputs. I was pretty much set on a 7.2 before posting but just wanted to see if I was missing something. Definitely miss having a manual for the street and like to be more engaged with the car. (hence going to the 675LT from 650S)

Complete apples and oranges like others have said. If you enjoyed the 650 you may dig the 991.1. The 997.2 is closer to the 996 Cup you've had. Not exactly but 95% there in terms of laptimes and 80% there in terms of feel & NVH.

I like Brandon's comments...
We also haven't heard whether you are more of a street-driving guy, or a track guy. My wife & I love driving the B roads in our mountain region. We needed manual. Coming from our 1991 964 Turbo, we HAD to have a 997.2 GT3 with a street spec (& Sharkwerks,... which seems to make me "think" I'm going much faster than I really am Lol). We do not care about valuations, and expect depreciation. We're driving it,... for years to come.
So the question to YOU OP, is where you get your biggest KICKS. I'm not a top notch driver, but I would say a very good driver,... and thus the feeling the raw, visceral 7.2 3 gives us is perfect.
Since you are coming from a GT2 turbo-torque comparison,... I'll also give you that we KEPT our '91 964 Turbo. The differences in pull, rev-range, torque etc are all very noticeable,... and thus BOTH compliment each other in our stable.
If you need to be going 100+ mph ALL the time,... go with a 991.

I am a big track guy so yes I'll be taking whatever I get on the track occasionally. Already have a dedicated track car however so this will mostly be a weekend driver/occasional track car.
