Default 996 seats into 997

I just purchased a set of Perlon 996 clubsport seats, off market, never listed from a fellow RL'er.

Does anyone have any recommendations with regards to the seat belt buckle receptacle?

I tried searching for some installation images but came up dry.

Should I continue to use the exist receptacle for both drivers and passengers side next to the center console? Should I purchase new receptacles that are longer? If so what P/N's? Should I try to thread the receptacles through the harness hole in the seat?

Any advice would be appreciated. Images of installed seats and receptacles would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Lightest Porsche factory GT3 seat, if I'm not mistaken.

No on the threading. That is harness only.

I don't think the stock GT3 receptacles are long enough to fit the 996 buckets. You may need to replace the receptacles. Drivers side is part number: 997-803-183-02 and passenger side is 997-803-183-03. They both measure out to 10.25 inches in length. Try, but I think you may need to replace them. You may even need to flash the airbag warning light...

I have CGT type seat in 997, here are the buckles I use. it's longer (slightly) than normal but works fine
It will work on 996 bucket too

LONG BUCKLES:

Driver side female receptacle
99780318310

Passenger side female receptacle
99780318311

I used passenger female receptacle for both sides (there was a reason why, but I cannot remember, it was 10 years ago)

I run them in my 7.1... I reused the stock receptacles, you can see in this photo they don't sit "proud" of the seat body, but when you clip the buckle in, the point at which the belt pivots is a few inches upwards anyhow and is quite alright for clearance and movement, just perhaps not ideal. I run the Schroth harnesses for track anyway...

Let me know if you want any more images, I can take some!

Astrix,
Thanks for the pic for reference. I might hit you up for some more pics. Do you have any images of the lap belt attachment for the Schroth harness? At least I'm not the only one with 996 seats in a 997. I'm assuming the seats look OK in the car?

Mooty,
Thanks for the P/N's and passenger receptacle advise. I know CGTs in Perlon would've been the best, but these are more within my price range and I can't do the folding seats.

Coop,
Thanks for suggestions. Definitely going to need delete the side airbag out. Funny how dealers won't even entertain the idea of turning this stuff off.

Astrix's solution works.

Ask Black Forest or someone else who has PIWIS to turn off the seat air bags. I've been debating buying a Chinese PIWIS knock off for some time just so that I don't have to deal w. the BS...

I don't have any handy, are you talking about where the lap belts attach to the seat base? Let me know and I can take some then upload for you.

Personally, I think those CGT seats that came in these cars are killer, but for dudes like me that got "turbo body"... well, you need the wider seat, and I like the older seat better, particularly for shoulder support! I think they look great in the Perlon material, I run with another guy in a 997 that also runs these seats.

Good point, forgot to mention the cancellation of the airbag light, I just had my shop switch it off along with the TPMS.

Porsche OEM has buckles for the GT3 buckets. I'm surprised your seats didn't come with them. Did the seats at least come with OEM Porsche side brackets?

https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/9X7BUCKLE.html

GT3 bucket alone will trigger an airbag light since there's no airbag or sensor setup in the seat, like any other race bucket, but a Durametric Pro can code that out from what I hear. I've never had a reason to code the airbag out, but I do have a Durametric Pro if you're bored enough to drive up to the Anaheim area one day to borrow it and find out.

@ LateBraking,
No buckles were included. The ones pictured in the Suncoast link you provided look like they are intended to pass through the lap belt hole as intended for the 997 seats. In the description they mention the length with "kink".

For the 996 seats, my understanding is that the seat belt receptacle was never intended to pass through the lap belt hole. Unless the image is wrong and these are just the longer straight versions of the seat belt receptacle.

All the seat base hardware is OEM.

Kinked one looks like the ones on my GT2 buckles, GT3 buckles are straight. I used to have GT3 buckets but I sold them, the buckles looked like this though.

Forum post is not letting me embed image for some reason, but check the third image in my old for sale thread.

^^^ Ok. Cool, Mooty did mention a longer receptacle would help.

LONG BUCKLES:

Driver side female receptacle
99780318310

Passenger side female receptacle
99780318311
