Default Carbon Fiber Wing

Need some help. I have a 2011 GT3RS, the clear coat is flaking off the Carbon Fiber Wing. Trying to get Porsche to step up and replace wing. No luck yet. Any suggestion? Can it be fixed? Do I have to replace it?

Thanks for for your help.

I can be fixed pretty easily. I'd call POA and ask for a logical reason it's not covered. Seems like it should be unless, some sort of cleaning solution touched it.

I’ve read about this. This is the delaminating issue I believe. I’ve heard and see on carfax reports being replaced under warranty (heard from a SA).

Good luck

Thanks! Will continue to see how Porsche handles this issue. Will keep you posted.

Can you post pics? I have had CF wings on other cars and it is common for the clear to peel. All a good body shop would then need to do is sand and reclear in most cases.
With my experience, different dealers will deal with this issue differently but I wouldn't bank on any helping you get Porsche to give you a new wing.

Agreed, most reputable body shops can sand down and redo the clear very well.

Just tell your SA that you'll meet in the middle. Porsche pay for a new clear coat to be applied. "You guys don't have to buy me a new wing".

Looks like more than just clear coat missing. A portion of carbon fiber is missing...

Redoing clear coat on carbon is easy. Did my own recently as a little fun project and its 10/10 on my first go. However that looks like something else totally - like its been hit hard or rubbed hard and damaged.

On the bright side, I think a competent person who can fix CF can still fix it to where most people would not notice. I had a CF lip that I kept alive for much longer just by having "a guy" who would fix cracks and missing chunks in his backyard "shop." However, I also agree that that is not the basic flaking that you would see from sun or other environmental exposure... In any case, I think you are going to have an uphill battle with Porsche but I would bug them to replace the wing or fix it. I have had mixed results with Honda, Mitsubishi, and Audi but sometimes I have had the Service Manager just replace stuff but other times, I have had to go to corporate to try to get a resolution.

Carbon looks intact but resin is delaminating from inside out. That's not a sand and clear coat job if that's the case and can't be repaired without destroying the weave. Really sorry about this. That's a bummer.

^^From that pic, that's not the case. Something hit that part as you can see the marks. Dealer won't cover that, nor should they have to.

As far as I know, nothing hit it, unless it came over the top of the car and hit the wing. The issue continues to spread. It started about the size of a dime and now it is 2 inch long and as you can see, it will continue to flake off. Dealing with the dealer here in Naples, they are say “NO”, not our problem. Thinking about selling the car. I’m not tracking the car anymore. Real hard to drive the car when the top speed on Marco Island is 35 mph. Need to fix this issue, one way or another.

If you buy a new wing, I'll buy you the damaged one.
