997.2 RS Collector Car?
I'm the process of importing my 2011 997.2 RS to New Zealand and in order to get compliance I need to prove the RS is a collector car. One of the requirements is less than 20k production volume which I've obviously met. The car needs to have historic value and a mention in a top publication stating it is a collector car is needed.
What does everyone here think? Is the 997.2 RS a collector already or a future collector car? I would be grateful for anyone that can provide any suggestions or links stating the RS is a collector. The NZ transportation authority is being a little picky with my compliance ... |
See if you can get a sothebys catalog, mentions already as a collectable https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/l...che-911-gt3-rs |
Thank you for this!! I didn't even think of that .Will try this route. They're pretty convinced the car is not a collector but I'm going to fight this until I get approved. I worked way too hard for this car and I'm not letting it go!!

They are wrong! You win..👍 |
These may help as well...

Thank you, Ginnmillracing!
I had found and presented the total911.com article you posted above, but I guess that was not convincing enough. Oddly enough only 8 997.2 RS models were sent to NZ out the 1500-1600 built worldwide. I'm going to send a boat load of articles to the transportation and compliance people in NZ. Thanks for your help everyone! The more sources the better :). Proud Rennlist member! |
If it is not a "collector car" then why low production and high resale value.......... You should win this on all counts! Good Luck!

I wonder how many 997.2 RS's were imported to NZ. What a car to drive on those roads, too.
How much grief is it importing a car with the steering wheel on the wrong side? |
when I moved to Australia, I was told it's very difficult to bring a car with me (was advised to "not even try")
not sure how much it differs in NZ but good luck, I hope you get it down there |

You might also note that Hagerty insures the car as a collectible, classic car.

not sure how much it differs in NZ but good luck, I hope you get it down there I tried to see if it was possible to bring a LHD into AUS and it is impossible. The current regs simply do not allow it. AUS is fairly tight with many things as I've learned. As for NZ, they actually have a special permit for collector cars in LHD or RHD if you tick all the boxes listed below. Took this straight from NZTA's website. https://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/im...rest-vehicles/ What requirements have to be met?Requirements that the vehicle must meetTo have a vehicle identified as a special interest vehicle, the NZ Transport Agency must deem it to have historic value or it must meet three of the following four requirements:

Recent Road & Track...doesn't outwardly claim the .2 RS is collectable, but certainly implied....

Actually, reading it again, it's pretty obvious....
"The market has acknowledged this car is a classic, and it's not just all hype. It's an icon, and a high watermark for Porsche Motorsport." |
