Default looking for engine builder recommendations

Looking for a shop, preferably on the east coast to do a stock rebuild on my .1 rs motor. There are few shops around me who are reputable, i just want to make sure i find a high quality shop who has experience with building our motors. Thanks!

yeah, he's on my radar for sure. Don't necessarily have a time frame, but would like to be back on the road for spring time.

That might be tough for Flat Six Innovations to complete in time. What about BGB in Florida?

Auto metrics is the shop on East coast. They build motors.

thanks for the suggestions, will be making some calls this week. Curious to see if PMNA will do it and what their Porsche tax on a build would be.

I did a little research recently on this for a friend who needs a rebuild. PMNA won't rebuild street motors, need a motorsport VIN for them to do any work on the car.

Dealer won't rebuild they just replace. Replacement cost for 996 is like $26k but there are non available and no ETA on when they will be available.

He's currently looking at motors from salvage cars first and if that doesn't work out AutoMetrics is who will likely be doing his build based on my research.

There are many reputable independent/race shops up and down the east coast that are highly experience with rebuilding water-cooled Mezger engine. A stock "text book" rebuild is not difficult at all for an experienced shop. It'll come down to an agreeable time frame and cost(depending on what "hard" parts are needed or desired)... Some examples in the mid-Atlantic area alone, not in any particular order, there's us (TPC Racing), Auto Associates, Bodymotion, DeMan, Musante, Speedsport Tuning, Powertec, Dougherty, EPE, LMN. Sorry if I left out any. And of course many more southbound.

Not only that, they don't do 997 street car vario cams and emissions equipment. Not to take anything away from the greatness that they are but if it not standard equipment on factory race cars then its not in their program.

Orbit did a great job on the motor in my 964 and is well known.

Curious: Whats necessitating the rebuild ? Miles/track time? Issue?

I feel like I want to open mine up and check the chains, the valve guides, ramps, etc. Compression and leak down are fine (like no leak, high compression).

Thx.

I would use Orbit or Autometrics for the East coast or 'do it yourself':-)
