Ive got a good one in Costa Mesa if you travel that far south.

Be careful with installing a LWFW on a 997.2 GT3. Many that have done so have quickly had the cam adjuster bolts back out. We made a harmonic damper to help reduce the crank harmonics that are causing this phenomenon.

Take a read here...

6-7 lbs I believe, the point is that its working on the correct side of the crankshaft to reduce harmonics. We tested it on a 997.2 RS and it made more power by helping reducing the crank shaking, which in turn reduces the cam shafts shaking back and forth, which allows more precise valve opening and closing events. We don't quote power gains with it, as that's not the point of the damper, but they are there...

Jamie, would you bother on a 7.1?

It helps for sure, but the 997.1 GT3 isn't as susceptible to the issue as the 997.2 GT3

whats the concensus on adding the damper to a stock .2? Is it overkill? Would the damper need different rubber internals if the dual mass flywheel was retained? These can be swapped out in the car after removal of the rear bumper and center muffler?

I would add to all 997.2 GT3 dual mass and especially single mass RS. Doesn't need different internals if the dual mass is retained as it's tuned to the harmonics of the crank, if the harmonics are less from the dual mass, then the crank damper doesn't have to do as much and less heat is generated. Yes can be installed in the car, remove bumper and muffler to get at the crank bolt.

Before doing this I would also inspect your cam adjuster bolts to ensure none have started to back out. The damper helps to reduce the driving force that causes the bolts to back out, it won't make a loose bolt tighten back up...

It seems like the covers for the cam bolts can also be accessed with the engine in the car, is that correct? It seems I may have figured out what my first project will be on my new-to-me .2 GT3. I want the thing to be bullet proof, and I also want to put some miles on it.

I would like to know too! Costa Mesa is a bit far for me.

A note to anyone putting a LWFW on a 997.1 GT3: YOU MUST CHANGE THE PULLEY TO THE LIGHTWEIGHT RS PULLEY! Details in the link.

I love my single mass flywheel. Car is a 95% track car, but I still enjoy it on the street. The "coffee can of old nuts and bolts that fell off the garage shelf and rolled down the driveway" sound really puts me in mind of the purpose of the car. The looks from people around you is priceless. I have even pulled into a P-Car dealer that was street car oriented, and the service writer said "Your car has a serious problem, we need to get it into the shop right away!" I bought my oil filter and rolled on....

Yes can be a little tricky but it's possible to get a good look at them...

Really? Good to know. Could they be replaced/lock-tite coated w engine in?

When i had engine out few yrs ago for coolant line welding (& your dampener fitted same time) the car was under CPO. They contacted factory for torque values on cam bolts and were specifically told that if they did anything w them they wd void warranty. Very touchy about it. They checked they were secure but did not document on bill.

Thx
Mark

Shortly after acquiring my 997 GT2 in 2011 I did an EVOMS flash that immediately caused clutch slippage. That was solved with a heavier Sachs clutch and single mass LWFW as on the 997 GT2RS. The car has been pretty much my fair weather daily driver since and I've put 35,000+ miles on it over the subsequent 7 years. As others have posted, I actually like the mild rumble of the SMFW at idle, it reminds me of the car's capabilities. It's nowhere near as loud as that video posted above, but it's there. In my case, I would certainly do it again.
