The airbox has holes on the bottom for water drainage. It's designed for rain, not a garden hose ;-)

I wouldn’t do that, ever again. If you ever rinse your engine bay stuff some rags in the air box so it doesn’t fill with water. As above, rain does not equal garden hose.

You 964Turbo guys do funnny stuff. ;)
I can tell you that the GT3RS, GT2, and GT2RS all have a same appearing air boxes albeit different sizes. Twin intake and mine all have a grey sponngy thing. I have never replaced them as I have a great right hand tech. I’m sure that your GT3 is the same.

I have driven through rain and washed the car but never had that much water in the engine compartment.

Take a picture of your air filter and post it here-factory filter is excellent, and is indeed paper. Yellow in color. Someone might have put an aftermarket filter in there, the kind that can be washed and re oiled. But if you search the site you'll see that most oiled filters are no good(MAF oil issues)BMC/K&N
Stock filter is fine, stick with it. Not sure how much water you're getting, post a pic-
I wash my car but never noticed too much water getting in there, though the belt does get wet. But either way I dry the car with a blower, never had an issue-
In any case, I'd check to see if your car has a stock filter, and if not, replace it. Also, what's your mileage?
Congrats on the new car, but definitely read up, rennlist has quite a lot of info if you search.
Did your car get a fresh oil change etc when you bought it? Is maintenance well documented?

Best,
JB

I use a piece of plastic sheet cut to the size of the lid opening. Place it on top of the engine, then close the lid. With water hosing, yes the engine bay gets wet, but the filters stay bone dry.

Wow I just came across this thread looking at how people prevent water from getting into the air box. That blue 997.2 is literally the most amazing spec GT3 ever. Blue with yellow stitching is amazing!
