Selling Boxster Spyder....considering 997.1 GT3.....
Used to browse these forums years ago but haven't been in this section in a while. Anything I should be aware of when looking for a 30-40k mileage 997.1 GT3? How is the reliability for these years? I am looking for mostly a fun weekend car, maybe the occasional DE at times.

I sold my 981 Spyder in Jan and purchased a 2008 991.1 GT-3 with 21K miles and haven't looked back. I loved the Spyder but really love the GT-3! In my due diligence it seems like the 997.1 is pretty much bullet proof. Like any purchase of a manual car, a DME report is important plus a PPI. GL in your search!

Make sure coolant lines are pinned or welded.
PPI a must. Buy the seller. Look for proof of commitments to proper service and maintenance. LSD probably toast unless it has A Gard Differential. Check suspension points for wear (lca's, bearings, toe links). Check hubs, axles. Both should be replaced periodically if seen much track use.

I too just made the switch from a 2011 boxster spyder to 2007 GT3. While the Spyder is an amazing and classic light weight porsche in its own right the performance in my GT3 is simply astounding! I agree with all the suggestions above. I would also have the Rear Main Seal checked. Also be aware that leaks in this area may be do to vaccum line leaks on the top end and not a failure of the seal itself.. The seals are sensitive to any loss of negative pressure behind them. GT3's are also very sensitive to suspension mal- alignment. A reputable suspension shop should be able to help in this regard. Clutch may need to be checked at the mileage you are considering especially if there has been track usage. I would strongly recommend budgeting for replacement of wear items if you drop the motor for coolant line work, ie water pump, plugs, coils etc .Finally I would highly recommend talking to Doug Tabbut of switchcars.com he is a long time RL sponsor and found me a car very similar to what you are looking for. PM if you want more info. good luck with your search, you wont regret the switch.

I would NOT rule out any car that has not had coolant lines pins or welded
if you plan to track your car heavily, you can have that done and likely should have it done
otherwise, it's something to consider if/when you have your motor dropped for anything, like a new clutch
