Is the 997.2 GT3 RS that much better than a 997.2 GT3?

Awesome comments guys - thank you for your time and amusement. I know this is a definite "first-world" problem but what a great problem to have, right?
Mr. Adair - I dig your move from the exalted 991.2 GT3 back down into your 997.2 RS. This says a lot.
Mooty - well said.
And Farisad - I hear you - the one's I am comparing are a 30 up to 60% difference.
And w00tPORSCHE - you've now got a couple of cars I need to come and drive! Thanks for the offer.

Didn’t feel the need for an RS and couldn’t afford the extra premium (albeit it’s even bigger now) at the time so the decision was easy.
However it had to be a GT3 with clubsport package and LWB’s. Bucket seats (fixed back or split) make a huge (and positive in my opinion) difference to the feel of the car.
Never once felt short changed in my GT3 nor do I hanker for an RS. Don’t get me wrong the RS’s are simply amazing. Thankfully I’m wholly content with what I’ve got.
Love the 997 for it’s mix of performance, interior, looks and all round usability. Enjoy!!!

^ I think this is good advice. Especially as with some fairly light and reversible mods you can get the gt3 to very close and in some cases considerably better than the RS easily enough as well without spending that extra for the RS badge. I'd be more than happy getting a .2 gt3 clubsport and tweaking it if I didn't already have my 7.2rs.

A 7.1 with lwfw upgrade is probably the best back roads 997 GT experience per dollar that can be had still. 997.2rs gets you 80% of a 4.0. Those are my 2 "value picks" for a fun street/occasional car. I think 997.2 gt3 is the least thrilling drive of all of them but probably the best track weapon per dollar out of the mix.
Oddly enough I own the exact opposite of what I recommended. I own a 7.1rs frog and a 4.0. I have my reasons but they aren't because of value. I own them for the reasons Mooty shared above.

If you only driven the GT3, you will never think you need anything more, but once you drive the RS you will instantly feel the difference.(Try downshifting the first time in the RS) To me it all depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for the ultimate performance on track and collectability, RS all the way. If you are only driving around town and canyons, the narrow tired/bodied GT3 is more lively and fun, and you don't look like your driving a race car everyday with that wing.
I picked the 997.2 GT3 because I didn't find the extra money to be worth it. I added fatter tires, 4.0 LWFW, tune, headers/exhaust and other 4.0 RS bits for way less than the 80k delta. Now I have my own unique car but RS fast!
ONLY DOWNSIDE: I don't have the shorter final drive but I can live with it with 80k extra dollars in my pocket.

My .2RS nice and I love it ... but because of Mooty, ...one day I will have 4.0.....because I wonder what I am missing because I do not have 4.0!!

I thought long and hard about this same topic. I came to conclusion that I would rather have two cars for the price of one. Money was the deciding factor. Kept my 997.1 gt3 and added a 993 c4s. Now I have two great cars to experience. I still do lust after a RS, but can't justify the money. Once I decided on the two car strategy it was either a 964/993 or a 997 turbo. That decision was very tough. I figured why not experience an air cooled vs a rocket ship. Love the vintage 911 smells and experience, but I do lust having the power of the turbo. Turbo air cooled are insanely expensive. If only I bought one 10yrs ago.
