Default Better Track seat 996 GT3 or 997 GT2 seat?

Morning - for a GT3 that sees 3 or 4 track weekends a year and the rest is enjoyable Street driving I wanted to ask the group here what is the better seat. Currently I have 996 GT 3 seat which I have been very happy with but thinking about upgrading. I have heard varying degrees of opinions but some have said that for track use stick with the fixed back 996 GT3 seat. Thoughts?

I dont have any experience with a GT2 bucket seat but im sure its good on track.

I do have 996 GT3 Buckets in my car and they are pretty damn good. Keeps my diet honest too

The gt2 buckets are kinda a compromise seat. They are folding buckets. To me they are a hybrid between sofas and buckets. I have them in my 4.0 and they are a good bucket for the street. There are better choices for the track imo. The 997 gt3 euro buckets, if you fit in them, are a better OEM choice for track from that period. I haven't sat in the 996 buckets but they seem fairly affordable and look like somewhere in between the 964/993 buckets and the 997 euro buckets.

Porsche brought back the so-called "GT2" seat on the ROW 991-2 GT3 ClubSport in place of their newer bucket seats. That should tell you how much of a "compromise" seat the "GT2" is

I've owned practically every sport and bucket seat Porsche has made in the past 25-30 years and the "GT2" seats are one of the best. They provide excellent support and are comfortable on long drives. Much more comfortable than the 996 GT3 seats.

That said, if you already have 996 GT3 seats are comfortable in them I see no reason to upgrade considering the cost difference.

I think they are great on the road. When I say compromise, it's a compliment if you want a bucket that is more practical for the road. But for track, I'm thinking there are better fixed bucket options.

I also own both and the 996GT3 bucket is the winner. Lighter and better support.

Also have both over time. To be clear I mean the fixed back 996 GT3 sear and the fixed back full carbon 997 seat in my 997.1 GT3 CS. Both quite similar really. If you are larger framed I think the 996 better, if not I think the 997 one better. Larger frame is say 6ft 2, and also over around 95kg.

If you're looking for attach seat, why not a real track seat? Safer, more comfortable and a lot less than GT2 seats

I have the 997 GT2 seats and really like them for street and track.

I bought them because they have a thorax airbag like the stock seats.
Even at 12 track days a year my car spends more time on the street.

Safety first. The street is dangerous. Removing airbags didn't make sense to me.

If you don't drive on the street get some real race seats and spend the savings on tires.

^^^ This! It also boils down to how you fit the seat. I don't track now and have driven from SF to LA and back in my RS/GT2 seats. I'm 5'9", 156 lbs. and have no issues at all. Try each and see what fits, based on your application.

My favorite seats in order:

CGT bucket aka 997 Clubsports
GT2 bucket
996 GT3
918/ current CF seat

The GT2 is the best street seat due to folding and airbag but the best for grippy twisty roads and the track for my frame is the CGT seat in fabric. The new 918 seat to me is not ideal at all and my least favorite of the recent ones. I like the 964RS/993 GT2 seats a lot better- those are basically Recaro Pole Positions
