Thanks a lot for all the color guys. This is very useful. As I suspected no really bad choice here.

The GT2 is the best street seat due to folding and airbag but the best for grippy twisty roads and the track for my frame is the CGT seat in fabric. The new 918 seat to me is not ideal at all and my least favorite of the recent ones. I like the 964RS/993 GT2 seats a lot better- those are basically Recaro Pole Positions
My seats are still for sale, never heard back from you.

What CJ said.
CGT >996 >gt2 , if you're tracking hardcore.
If mostly street.
Gt2 >CGT >996 seats.

I will say, i found taking off the GT2 seat covers OFF while tracking was a MASSIVE improvement(trackcar's suggestion). hate to say this but better then 996 seats, due to more mobility in the upper body.

^^^^^ Those carbon OMP seats are great but the head restraints are illegal for street driving in some (all?) states. Some seats have removable restraints for street driving that can be bolted back in when you head to the track.
Also agree with F1CrazyDriver. Taking seat inserts out of GT2 buckets while on track is a huge improvement. Just sit on a yoga mat cut out so your butt doesn't zzzzzz.
Airbags are needed for street driving... they save lives. based on only 3-4 track days a season with your spirited street driving I'd say spring for the GT2 seat. spirited driving can go wrong quickly. also, gt2 seats are money in a mattress... you can flip them for the same price you paid anytime down the road. fun choice to make!

What is the typical price for a set of 996 gt3 buckets in very good condition?

Which Recaro is a good aggressive street seat and cost?

996 GT3 ~$3k for 7/10 seats ~$4k for 10/10 .... per set
Go to a race shop and sit in some Recaros. You'll want to know what fits you first. That will narrow your choices considerably. That said, the Recaro Pole Position gets high praise around here. They run ~$1k -~$3k each depending on fabric/leather/carbon/kevlar, etc.

No affiliation but 311RS out of Minny makes some pretty sick custom PPs:

GT2 buckets. They look 997 correct and feel great.
Folding option keeps them practical.

I had them my my 997RS until i switched to CGT buckets. (my car is a garage queen now thus did not require practical anymore)

I also have GT2 buckets in my daily driver 997 turbo.

I remember reading somewhere that the 996 gt3 seat interferes and comes in contact with the B pilar in a 997 when moved back. Considering this setup myself and wanted to confirm fitment is not an issue with the seat way back, for reference I am 6'6" and drive with the sport seats all the way back.

Any insight?

Thanks,

Kevin

Resurrecting this thread for a few follow-up questions for fitment:

It is next to impossible for me to find all these seats to sit in back to back for comparison. That said, I have sat in the 996 GT3 seats and like the fit (same as PPs).

The local dealers have a couple cars that have the 991 GT2 bucket seats, so going to stop by and check fitment. But is there a fitment difference between the 997 and 991 bucket seats? I would expect them to fit similarly, but thought I would see if anyone has experience.

Thanks,
-Skip

If you're talking the 918 seat, which is a fixed back, not folding seat, that is found in the 918, 991.2 GT3, 981 GT4, etc, those are going to sit considerably lower than the 997 GT2 bucket seat, which is a folding back seat and found in the 997 GT2, 997.2 GT3/RS and also as an option I believe in europe for the 991 cars. The GT2 folding bucket seat is no longer an option in the US, I think due to some DOT regulations. To confuse things even more, there is the CGT seat (although it's slightly different from my understanding than what's actually in the CGT as the CGT seats come in different sizes). But the CGT seat for the 997 GT3 was part of the club sport package in Europe and are very expensive. Like $15k+ per set used, here in the US.

The GT2 buckets are a no go for me unfortunately. I want them but until I can sit in a set with lowering brackets and possibly convince a company to make a less thick foam, I will not be able to buy them even though I would like to install them in my 997.1 GT3. If someone is near the Ohio area with the GT2 buckets and has lowering brackets, maybe I'll eventually try and sit in them to see if it's a possibility.

Pics of each seat for reference.

Note that the pricing for the 918 seat is not actually for a seat, just for the inserts.

Seats are very subjective. I've had the Euro 997GT3RS CGT seat, the 996GT3 Euro seat and the Recaro Spa. The CGT seat is very wide and perfect for an individual with a Mr. Potato head figure with broad hips and narrow shoulders. The shoulder area is very narrow and non supportive for track use. They looked great and that is about the only thing I liked about them.

The 996GT3 Euro seat has much better overall support including good support in the shoulder area and will fit a wide variety of body types with waists up to 38" or so.

The Recaro Spas are the most supportive and run relatively narrow but fit perfect for those with waists up to 36". I'm 5'10, 180 lbs with a 33" waist and broad shoulders. I hated the CGT seat, swam in them. The 996GT3 seats were great overall as a street/track seat with a fantastic mix of support and comfort. The Spas fit like a glove (similar to Hans Pro Racer), supremely supportive and actually very comfortable, my favorite for a non Hans track seat. With seats, try before you buy...

Getting closer to the right choice, but don't think my wallet will like it.

I wasn't able to find a 997 carbon fiber bucket seat to sit in, but was able to sit in the 918 variant and the fit was fine.

So, is the 997 seat setup (hip and shoulder width) the same as the 918?

With the help of some others it seems that I will have enough headroom, so that part passes, just need to validate that the fitment in the hips/shoulders is the same as the 918.

Thanks,
