Seat school......
Can someone give me a quick rundown on the different buckets that would work in my car. It's 997.1 gt3. Love the car. Love the way it looks and drives. Since June I've put on 4000km. So must be comfortable . Ordered my new 991 with carbon buckets. Would like to continue the theme. Only factory Porsche seats.. gt2 type and so on. And not totally familar with the seat market.. what should I expect them to cost. Thx lee

3 types will bolt right in. 1 will bolt in and allow the airbags in the seats to work w/o coding:
997.1 euro sport buckets (i.e. CGT seats)
996 sport buckets
997.2 GT2 buckets - these have side airbags, others dont

997.1 euro sport buckets (i.e. CGT seats) $15000 or so, hard to find. i just sold my pair
996 sport buckets: $4000 or so, old and hard to find
997.2 GT2 buckets - these have side airbags, others dont $7000-8000 based on condition. more readily available
but any recaro, sparco, race tech will fit. just not as period correct

CGT best seats ever for a GT3.

996 elephant ear seats with the cloth Porsche crest are super rare. If I had a spare pair to sell I would price it right up there with the CGT buckets...

Which seat is the best depends on your size. If you have narrow hips, Euro 996 GT3 seats are the best, imho. They are much lighter than the other factory options other than CGT seats. They have even better shoulder support than the CGT seats. Downsides are 1) you won't fit if you're big, 2) they don't fold to allow access to the rear, and 3) they have no airbags.

Just pulled the trigger on a pair of GT2 seats with alcantara inserts to replace my existing Recaro SPGs. Looking forward to it. These are the best looking Porsche seats, in my opinion.

The term "buckets" has become popular
Unfortunately there is no one size fits all.
I would encourage you to try on all the suggestions and go from there, maybe even close your eyes and sit back in your stock seats.

I think the point you made on "only Porsche seats" dictates some of the answer you are looking for; are you going for a certain period correct look? Form over function? Physique? Those are all things that can dictate which seat work for you.
As Modena stated, no one size fit all. Same goes for price, no one price point fits all.

I had GT2 seats in my GT2. I had "sofas" in my GT3 RS. I had leather CGT seats in my CGT and and GT3. I had leather and perlon "Aliens" in two of my 996 GT2s. I liked those seats. However nothing and I mean nothing beats perlon CGT seats. BTW they are becoming difficult to order. The sets my friend got looked awful. The slip cover was fine but the carbon laminate is horrible. I'd look for a clean used set. Just my 2 cents.

stock "sofa" seats are great for daily driving but boring in a GT3.
The GT2 seats allow race harness and fold forward.
The Euro "CGT" bucket is the lightest of the bunch and looks totally correct. They are comforable for long drives and great on the race track.
I had GT2 buckets for a few years and liked them on and off the track, but sold them in favor of more correct CGT seats.
It is harder to access the rear of my car behind the CGT seats but they look the part and have less weight.
The side bolsters of both the GT2 and CGT seats are a little harder to slide in and out. Especially if driving around town during daily duties.
