Survey of 997 Owners

I'd like to conduct a survey of 1996-2008 Porsche owners in order to get an idea of what kinds of preventative maintenance have the most value/effect. Whether your car is healthy or if you've experienced an IMSicon failure or bore/cylinder scoring issue, please share. I will post this survey in a number of forums and compile the information in order to get some conclusive data on what works instead of just relying on circumstantial evidence:

1) The year, model, and mileage of your Porsche the last time you drove it (i.e., at the time of failure, if it experienced one)
2) Did your car experience either an IMS or cylinder-scoring-related engine failure?
2a) Did the failure occur on a racetrack?
2b) What was the nature of the failure?
3) What oil is/was used in the car?
4) Did/does the car have a LN engineering spin-on oil filter, or the stock oil filter?
4a) If the filter was a spin-on, did/does the car also have the extra magnetic strip installed?
5) Did/does the car have a magnetic oil drain plug?
6) Did/does the car have a 3rd radiator installed?
7) Did/does the car have a low-temp thermometer installed?

I've done most of my posting on Pelican and Planet-9. I've posted this thread on those forums as well. Trying to get as much data as possible.

This seems like beating a dead horse(s) with faulty statistics.

This survey has already been done numerous times - but never really in the right way. If you are going to do it again, may I suggest during it throughout using this:

There is also the poll threads that are stickied in each 996/997 forum that cover this info (scored cyl and IMS issues)

Post an excel spread sheet and let the fun begin.

Lets sell some parts!

I personally like replacing good parts with new parts. Im ocd, retired and have nothing better to do.

REALLY

Maybe add:
  1. does the car have a deep sump
  2. do you fully warm the oil (above 175) before exceeding 4,000 rpm
  3. do you warm up the car in a stationary position or drive off upon starting
  4. What level do you usually keep your oil at - top line, one line down, 2 lines down
There are really a lot of variables here that could contribute to those failures

I'm just trying to collect data because I noticed a lot of would-be Porsche owners have a lot of unwarranted fears/concerns, and I'd like to show that taking certain steps might prevent these failures. I'm surprised by the level of push-back. Just trying to do something that might help owners.

Jake has already listed the 59 modes of failure.

Seems like a good idea until you think about it.

Maybe instead do a proper survey using a cloud solution, it will also consolidate everything for you!

Now, for my case, perfect car 2007 C4S, 30K miles, no issues, done regular maintenance, have used magnetic plug and somtimes not, using 5W40 Motul oil...

I had a 06 c4s from 15k miles to 50k miles over 6 years.
Used 5-40 total oil
Car ran great
Would start and drive off and not hit 4K rpm til oil warm
Did oil change every 5k miles
