Default What car jack do you carry on long road trips?

Just as the title says, I'm interested in hearing what jack you guys carry in your frunk for long or out of the way road trips.

Based on input from some of you, I bought the Dynaplug Tire Repair Plug Kit (http://www.dynaplug.com/pro.html) but still need to address the probable need to have to lift a punctured tire and use the kit.

I just carry collapsible spare tire kit (with inserted foam) jack from 996 turbo. Clears red S brakes. You can buy just a small scissors jack from 996/944/Boxster for $40-$80 on eBay

For long road trip I'll take my aluminum floor jack with a tire repair kit which includes a compressor. Plus nitrile gloves to the hands clean!

Scissor jacks work great if you are just lifting one wheel at a time, plus they are light and don't take up much space. You don't have to worry about them slowing going down like some hydraulic jacks. You can find them on amazon at a very reasonable price.

Absolutely the way to go. A real spare tire instead of a silly can of goop. The 996 jack kit is perfect. I don't know why Porsche has not made this the SOP for all the new cars. Question, are you running 18 or 19 rims?

I carry a used 996 spare tire (the thin non-collapsible one), scissor jack, pump, torque wrench, and repair kit. The tire "just" fits standing up in the 997 trunk when held in place with a bungy against the bulkhead.tire came in a nice black fabric sleeve with Velcro flap.

Where does the flat tire go? I could imagine the front seat but if you have someone with you then it's tricky I would think

Scissor jack harbor freight. Plus don't forget the lug wrench - No such thing in the frunk from Porsche

i think I'm going to replace the oem goop too. Just in case it's raining or on a hill. (Mine is 10 yrs old probably separated by now)

You may want to read about my recent flat tire in my 2009 C2S...... Porsche goo doesn't work... a tire plug kit that I carry saved the day.

I always carry a string plug kit with me. i think the one you have is undersize and hard to use. get a normal kit with a T handle and strings and glue. I buy from tire supply store but I think you can buy on ebay or some auto parts stores.
buy good strong ones and carry a side cut pliers to get nails out

Pack a 2x4 to get your car high enough, to get the jack under, if you car is lowered.

That's the reason I haven't bothered with a spare. If I went on a trip it would be with my wife. I suppose a rear wheel might fit in the back, maybe with the seats folded down. But then where would the rest of our luggage go that didn't all fit in the frunk?

It's really kind of moot for me though because we never go more than an hour away by car, and if we had to we'd rent something as we don't have time to deal with car repairs out of town.

The Dynaplug kit works exceptionally well. I carry one in all my cars, along with a mini compresssor (P cars have their own, so not in those) and fixed a friend's punctured tire in my driveway the other day without needing anything that wasn't in the Dynaplug Kit, which all fits into the handle. All metal construction, super compact, no adhesive to deal with that goes bad, etc.

I don't carry a spare when I take trips in the 997s or 928. Figure with AAA, I'll have it flat-bedded and use my trip interruption protection for a rental car or hotel room or both if it's going to take more than a few hours to get me on my way again. A spare might get me out of a remote area quicker, but since I likely couldn't finish the trip on that compact spare, don't really see the point.

Great information about the spare fitting in your trunk. Thanks.
