Default 997 Carrera: From Dire Straits to 4.0

Back in September, I was looking for a 997 to use as a daily. I came across this Carrera on Rennlist that caught my attention.

https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...-out-fail.html

https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...s-bearing.html

As the owner of a 997.2 GT3 and .1RS, I wanted something easier to daily drive and at the same time, fun with lots of power! As most 997 owners, I was obviously aware of IMS issues. The previous owner was clearly done with this particular car, but I was actually excited about the new possibilities I was ready to explore.

Long story short, I ultimately decided on a 4.0 conversion along with a few other minor mods and the results are far beyond what I ever hoped for or expected. The 4.0 has loads of power at every rpm and pulls so incredibly strong. I previously owned a 2006 Carrera S and there is simply zero comparison. I am one happy camper!!

Just wanted to thank this awesome community as a source for finding such a car and thought all of us 997 enthusiasts would be glad to see this car back to life, big time!

A few more upgrades coming, will update once completed.

Congrats! Car looks nice. Hopefully those license plate frames keep you out of trouble!

They don't. Cops don't care if you have them these days; ask me how I know

Did you upgrade the 3.6 997.1 engine? How does the power and torque compare to the 997.2?

Yes, it was a 3.6 from a 997.1. The power and torque are very similar between this 4.0 and the 997.2 GT3, but with better driveability.

Dare I ask how much a conversion like this costs? Parts + Rebuild

I have a 2005 myself and IMS is always in the back of my head.

I bet this thing is just a monster!

It definitely get's out of its own way. Lol. The cost was a bit higher, because of the engine issue. We also opted to do as much as we could, both with performance and reliability while we were in there. All in was about 27k.

Awesome! My 07 C4 case is at the machine shop getting sleeved to 4.0 right now, so this post hits home.
Where did you buy the pistons?
