888 vs 888R vs NT01
i'm getting back into the track game after a few years off and need a new set of rubber (for the Glen in a month). besides street "performance" tires many moons ago in my novice days, i have only run 888's. i like them just fine but it also means I have pretty much no frame of ref for comparison. toyo now has a "new and improved" 888R, anyone try them?
and it looks like nitto finally makes the NT in my size (235/35, 295/30, 19") so am leaning toward them simply to try something different.
i am not going to hoho's or slicks at this point, so any thoughts on the above 3?

hard pass on all three when you can get RE 71Rs in our size now for the same price.

Well, if you want to drive to track and enjoy track in any condition with only one set of tires there is always: R11 and AD08Rs. They are perfectly fine for DE for "equipment preservation" driver. Yes, R71s will buy you a second maybe on the first day but nobody cares especially drinking beer after event. Yes, NT01s will be more consistent after 25 min hot session but by that time the session is over.

^^^^ your last sentence doesn't make any sense. Nt01 are consistent the entire session. That's what consistency means.

If you're using them for the track this summer, NT01s will grease up a bit after a few laps. They don't nearly melt like R1Rs but they will slow down a bit in the afternoon.
In my experience. Your mileage may vary, etc.

^^^ if that is happening, try dropping your pressures. I do notice this when mine spike to 36-38 hot in the afternoon.
Dropping back to 32-34 hot and they stick like glue.
not starting an NT01 pressure thread here... plenty of those already
OP, congrats on your purchase. Enjoy!

If you get Nitto's and don't like them, put them up for sale - plenty of buyers on RL. You may have to eat a few dollars, but if relatively new, not too much of a discount would be needed.
I'm betting you'll like them. Lot's of tire pressure threads in Racing and DE Forum too.

I just bought a set of the R888R's for the Miata. Why would I do that when I could buy NT-01 or RA-01 for $150 each? Well because the 888R were $100 each. For that price, I figured they were worth a shot. Any feedback? Pennywise and pound foolish when they heat cycle out?
Not sure if the price runs similar in the Porsche sizes, but if so, it might change the replies...?

Toyo owns Nitto. From past research on the web, lots of peeps are saying NT and 888 are same compound, but the larger tread blocks of the NT allow for more rubber contact with the ground, thus better lap times from improved grip.
The Toyo rep I talked to at SEMA claims the new 888R is a totally new compound and will eventually replace the 888 and has the benefit of a stickier compound and larger contact patch. So he claims better lap times than NT and old 888, with less tread squirm and as good or better water displacement at full tread.
