Chicagoans, help convince me to buy a 997!
Long time lurker here. I've had 911 envy for a couple decades now and have finally convinced myself to try and own my first. I'm looking at both 991s and 997s. I live in Bucktown/Wicker Park and would love the opportunity to meet a local member/enthusiast or two, talk about the car/options, go for a spin, and generally convince me to pull the 997 trigger.
Thanks!
Thanks!

If you want to see a lot of Porsche's (911 and Cayman) all in one place that are speced from nothing to loaded, go to Road America on May 27th (Sat). You can go Fri or Sun too. It's free to attend as a spectator. You will see GT4's, GT3's, GTS, S, Base in nearly all platforms. Just walk the paddock and talk to folks. You'll get way more access to cars than a Cars and Coffee type event and definitely more variety of Porsche's. It's a good way to see what a brown interior looks like or what full leather vs non-full leather looks like etc... We see lots of pictures on the net but the real thing makes a big difference.
Leave at 9 in the morning, arrive around 11:30am. Eat lunch at Road America, drive the track for $10 or something like that (touring sessions over lunch). Then spend the afternoon walking the paddock looking at cars and watching some track sessions. Then drive home.
You'll definitely buy a 911 after that. Ha.

I'm a burb guy and wasn't keen on having nice cars when I lived in lake view. That said I'm hooked on the 997 and will likely always have one even if I return to the city. I think the 991 is a great car too. Drive them both.

Hotel Guy - here is a post I wrote after going through your same process.

My advice...buy the 997! I think its going down as one of the classics. At the price they are selling you can enjoy the car instead of worrying about depreciation on the newer 991s.
Good luck and let us know how we can help!

997.2 is the one to get IMO - the 997 is just right in size, power, DFI engine (no IMS), updated infotainment, etc etc.
Just make sure to get a Carrera S or higher! Happy to share my ownership experience over coffee/beer, I'm a West Looper.

Hey man - I'm in Bucktown and have a 997.2 C2S that I DD (winter, snow, rain, shine).
After a very long line of VWs, BMWs and others - it's simply the best car money (at that pricepoint) could buy. I'd entirely skip looking at 997.1s, but that's for another discussion. I've driven a 991.1S (PDK) - and could not fall in love with it. Same with a PDK Cayman R.
Feel free to PM me if you want to ever take a look.

You guys are great, thanks for the feedback. Definitely plan on reaching out to a few of you to grab a drink and get smarter!
Are any of you guy the modified black 997 (not sure if .1 or .2) that's always driving around Wicker Park with the roof rack? Sounds great. May have seen it for sale in the classifieds at one point not too long ago.

No, the R8 guy got away. The yellow Lambo got the ticket and the rest scattered. I stayed behind and talked to the LEO. He said no one paid for their $2.00 parking spot
