Back To a Cayman For Me
Well, I guess this is goodbye?
A couple years ago I sold my 981 Cayman S to a board member (we still keep in touch!) to be ready to snag a GT4 if the right one came up. Still haven't found the right one, but did get my name on the list for a GT4RS if they ever become a reality.
Between selling the 981 and getting this 987. I've owned an F80 M3 comp pack, BRZ, e92 M3 comp pack, and my current 997.2 C4S. Last week I took delivery of 2007 Cayman S from a dealer: one previous meticulous owner and only 11,500 miles. When it arrived, the condition exceeded my expectations (I paid $29k from the dealer, which I believe is pretty good).
I will say hands down that from the cars listed above, I would choose the keys to the 987.1 10 out of 10 times for a curvy weekend drive, even probably over the 981 CS. Yes, the technology isn't quite as good as the newer cars, but the Bose system is actually better than the Bose in the 997.2 and HK in the F80 (I'm guessing part of it is that there is less air to move around inside the smaller Cayman).
If I could only have one car that had to be fun, sporty, semi practical, comfortable, luxurious, and year round, it would be impossible to beat the 997 C4S. But as a weekend car, it was too refined for me.
Motor on!

Wow--interesting post, ZCP. I am sort of of the the same mindset as you. I have a 2009 987S (my third Cayman) that is now a pretty gnarly track car. Although it is still street legal, it has been developed to where it would be a pretty miserable daily driver. I currently have a BMW E92, which is a great DD car, but I have been madly lusting for a C4S.

This Cayman will be just an aggressive back road carved. I need it to be comfortable enough to drive the hour it takes to get to the fun roads, and also docile enough for date night.
If your e92 is an M3, keep it.
