Default Danbury Porsche / PPI

Hi Rennlisters -

Considering moving from 997.1 Targa to 997.2 Targa - there is one for sale at Danbury Porsche. The dealership seems to be very well regarded by folks here - have searched a number of posts with high praise for the sale staff.

Since I am 600+ miles away, would it be crazy to have them perform a PPI on the car? Seems like there could be a bit of conflict of interest though last year was looking for a used Honda for my daughter at a dealership and they did a PPI that was pretty scathing...they recommended I not buy the car so it seems as though service department can be unbiased.

thanks

I would trust them - I've bought several cars from them, albeit all new, and would get service my newer cars. You could always have SpeedSport Tuning, an independent Porsche shop 2 miles away, do a PPI. They work on several of my older and rarer Porsches. Bryan - 203 730 0311 could help.

If you are really interested in the car, perhaps ask a local Rennlister to drop by and have a look, perhaps maybe send a few cell phone pics before you hop on a plane.

If the car is a CPO car, the PPI has already in a sense, been completed. I would not pay them to do what should have already been done. Instead I would take that money and pay an independent party to do the inspection.

Speedsport is up Danbury. They are highly regarded and I'm sure they'd do a PPR if you are really insisting on a 3rd party review.

You guys are the best!! Thanks for all of the great info.

I really want to get into a 997.2; based on what I have seen on some other threads there were only 60 2009 Targa 4s sold in US...and midnight blue / beige is a very hard combo to find. So they are few and far between. What is going to mess me up is the financials. I overpaid for my 997.1 and have doubled the mileage (although still pretty low at ~26K). They are asking $59K for the 997.2; sales tax alone I suppose will be north of $5K (**forgot about trade in value so tax should be less**)...so possibly looking at a $15K-$20K differential.

I will be talking to them this afternoon to see what options are.

It actually is not an "S' - but I think that a 997.2 base has the same horsepower as a 997.1 "S" so it would be an improvement for me.

If I could find an "S" I would be interested, but it isn't a requirement. Plus, I don't like the white gauges on the "S" so would need to swap those out.

It looks like a great car. However, it is a "4", not a "4S".

As others have said: You can trust that dealership, but you still need to verify. Have an Indy to the PPI.

+1 Speedsport, they did a lot of work on my cars and never failed me.

FWIW, I've bought CPO cars and found all kinds of the issues with them, they lie (big surprise?).

Talked to the salesguy - super nice and professional...he is working up some numbers but I am not too hopeful. I think that there will be a $15K difference...and $15K would buy a lot of mods to my current car.

Any thoughts on that line of reasoning?

I don't have any advice for you, but the resale on 15k in a 997.2 would be much better than spending that 15k on mods.
