Oil Siphon
Has anyone used one of those oil siphon extractors in doing an oil change? Is it even possible? I use one in my other 2 cars and it removes 95+% of the oil, then I crawl underneath and remove the plug. Much less chance of a mess when you only have to drain the last cup or so of oil.

My first thought was "what about the crap at the bottom of the pan?". Glad to see you still use the drain plug afterwards to get the remaining oil out.
Thinking out loud here, I like the idea of less mess with this method. Get most of the oil out with an extractor then finish up with a normal pull-the-drain-plug type oil change. Does the traditional method get more of the crap out of the bottom though? Since all the oil is flowing out and takes any settled contaminants with it? Or am I over thinking this?

Used an oil extractor for years on my drivers (Volvos). If your engine is in good shape and has no sludge you warm up the engine to get the dirt in suspension then siphon it out. I never drained the oil in the 3 drivers I had and never a problem.
However when I tried to get the extraction tube into my 911 it wouldn't go to the sump. Something was blocking it, and I didn't want to force it and get it caught up in there. So I drain the 911, no big deal once a year.

I have an oil extractor that I use on my E350 through the dipstick hole. I'm not sure if guiding the extractor tube through the oil fill tube would make it to the bottom of the oil pan. Plus access to the drain plug on a 997 is pretty darn easy so I'm not sure if the benefit is there.
