Default IMS CarFax Record on `07 997.1 4S

Hey guys, I am looking at a 2007 997.1 4S and it has the following carfax record:

2011 28K Miles:
Axle Bearing replaced
Engine cleaned
Front crankshaft oil seal replaced
Transmission removed to complete

Do you think this indicates that IMS was replaced or is this something else?

Car currently has 55K miles on it.

Thanks!

Those repairs have nothing to do with the IMS. On a 2007 the engine would come out and have to be taken apart to change it. It's already got the updated IMS if it's an 07.

Geezuz

It's no wonder the Europeans are laughing at us with our ridicolous IMS concerns and the subsequent pathetic class action lawsuit money grab - I know some of them wish they lived here so they could buy four or five 997.1's for dirt cheap.

stop acting like the IMS doesn't exist. You just look ignorant.

OP, not sure why they would remove the transmission to replace the front main seal. Axle bearing...hmm, could be a wheel bearing, could be the IMS bearing. Hard to say.

The trouble with this record is you don't know if the tech put it in or a clueless service advisor or what. I'd want to see actual receipts and such

I know that IMS on 997.1 is not as big of an issue, but there are still plenty of people reporting that they had to replace it.

Figured I would ask

Seems to be only people with early '05 builds.

true, i didn't look at the model year.

For an 07, the car should have the larger non-replaceable (without teardown) engine.

What probably happened during this service was a wheel bearing and an RMS (not front seal) replacement.

Not an IMS issue in that service if anything it's the RMS - common problem - if it's weeping not a big deal but when it starts to leak you've got to drop the trans and do the job - not too cheap (8+ hours of labor) + 30 dollar part. People usually do a clutch job at the same time. If that service was done you should be fine.

Also you cannot replace IMS bearings after 05 builds without an engine tear down - and zero need as they are the larger upgraded version. The early 2005 builds are the smaller bearing and you can replace those when doing the clutch/RMS etc quite easily.
