GROUP BUY REDUX - 996/997.1 NA 200 cell x-pipe
#62
I have an 06 997 3.6 interested in X-Pipe and possibly headers.

Mounted my cross over version yesterday. A few points of interest worth noting.
Weight: 1lb less per side than OE
Sound: significant increase just off idle and over 4K RPM with no added drone at cruising RPM.
Power: not noticeable
Fit: great with the exception of having to do the same sensor swap as "Ghost_Round" explained previously
Quality: Welds are great for the price. Box said it was from Taiwan with TopGear logo...

I wonder if the sound increase just off idle is related to the clutch switch (if you have a manual) see link

Do you feel the engine rev climb noticeably quicker from 4K to 7K ?

I would say it did feel slightly quicker reving. Hoping the ECU will learn and things might be a bit more noticeable in time on the torque or rev.
I'm planning the 4.0 conversion so this was somewhat of a preemptive purchase. Wasn't expecting much beyond a tad nicer exhaust note which it delivered in spades.

Thanks for the quick review.

Almost done with my install. O2 cables heading from cats to muffler still seem a bit short. Suggestions welcomed! I'll post again when it's all set
[Edit: I figured it out. Just in case anybody else needs this basic help, the cables come up into the engine compartment. With the lid lifted, there in the outer corners, rearward. Like around the tail-lights. There's a blue and a black cable, and to get a bit more length, you'll need to unhook a couple of the wire guides/retainers. I had to remove the airbox to get to the one on the passenger side.]
don't worry about the blocks. The car is actually supported by 4 Aasco stands. You can see one on the passenger rear side

Longish story for me. I got the big bore x pipes, but they didn't fit my X51 car nicely. I would have had to cut down the pipes leading to the mufflers, and also it was very very tight at the header end - when I test fit them, I couldn't get both sides to line up nicely.
So reluctantly the x pipe came off and was shipped to another Canadian customer of Top Gear's, and I got a pair of the regular cat pipes instead. I just finished installing them and they are lovely.
Unfortunately, another tip for anyone with X51 or PSE - Top Gear's tips don't fit either. The aftermarket tips seem to be meant for one central pipe off then muffler to give the impression of two tips. There are actually two tips on the PSE. The PSE tips bolt to one of the pipes and then the other tip hovers over the other pipe. The aftermarket tips mount centrally.
Le sigh - contact me if anyone wants a set of the titanium finish tips!

Sorry to hear about that, Saaboteur.
I just put mine in yesterday and I'm impressed with the fitment for my non-PSE .1 C2S. Really nice craftsmanship.

Yes, nice fitment, easy-peasy.
I got some actual mileage on it today (finished up late afternoon yesterday and then family over so no chance to drive). The sound is exactly what I wanted - not obnoxiously loud, but more volume. I am fortunate to have PSE so it's not much different at idle. But at WOT it sounds great! Kinda weird though - it's loud around 3700-4000, then slightly quiet, then at 6000 is really loud again. Love it!

Hey guys since my Rennlist discount didn't work on top gears website so I decided to give Maxspeed Motorsports a shot. I bought their cat less X pipe and I couldn't be happier. It bolted on nicely with my Fabspeed headers and mufflers and is just as high quality as these.
Sounds incredible too!
If anyone else wants to try the out here is the link: http://www.maxspeed-motorsports.com/..._Products.html
