Default APR performance tune - Opilika, AL - anybody?

Stumbled across these guys not far from me.
Dyno looks pretty impressive.
Looks like they are doing very well 50 staff and 78,000sf facility.

997 tune for $1200.

That dyno is impressive. I'll be following the list's responses for a reality check, though it doesn't look like they have a tune for the .2 car? If I read the promo correctly, mapping is real-time switchable somehow (octane-based, valet mode, etc.)?

I used them before in my Audis. Thats what they mostly are, and I would stick to a dedicated Porsche tuner for the 911. I used their HFC, exhaust, and tune in my B6 S4.

VWs too. They are probably the most popular tuner for the GTI crowd. It's tough to find a GTI for sale on the Vortex that doesn't have some APR parts.

Note the fine print where it says "includes catback exhaust" although they don't specify what the exhaust is nor do they appear to sell a 911 exhaust.

I have used them on my audi and bmw. Very solid.

Interested to see how a reputable tuner does in the porsche market.

I have their tune on my VW GTI. In the VW and Audi world they are the gold standard when it comes to ECU tuning. Other tuners hold them in high regard as they have all their own software and do everything completely in house (no Dimsport). I don't know about their Porsche tune but if I were getting one I wouldn't hesitate to go with them. They tend to be a little pricier than some competitors but their tunes tend to be quite well implemented. They also usually have a margin of error in their tunes and tend to be a little more conservative than some competitors which is good if you are worried about engine longevity. If you want to eek every bit of performance possible out of the engine at the possible expense of durability you will probably want to look for a different tuner. It all depends on your preferences.

I'd call Jeff at United Motorsports. He is the go-to tuner for euro cars. Tell him what your looking for and he can make it happen. They might also have a 911 map already.

I've dealt with APR quite a bit for my Audis. I didn't take my cars to a shop, I drove them to APR headquarters in Opelika. Quite a facility. Didn't have a problem with the tunes they provided. If you decide to go with APR.. I'd stick with the software only... not hardware.

I'd tend to want to work with a tuner that specializes in Porsche.

Have an APR on my Audi and it gave it a lot of life. I would do it again for sure.
