Code7rpd, much appreciated !
Used to use a battery to test wiring polarity back in the 80's when I did a lot of installation but I didn't want to have to take off the covers to label each wire. Thank you again.
In reading so many previous threads I was expecting 5 channels. Can anyone confirm the factory Bose speakers have x-over components at each speaker and can handle high or low passed signals from a replacement amp?

Excited to replace this wonky interface.

Loi at Euromotorspeed hooked me up with both the HU & amp harness for my 997.1 With Bose vehicle. Great guy who seemed to have a decent amount of experience with 997 models.

For those of you that replaced the BOSE amp.
  1. How long were the RCA cables you used b/t the HU and AMP ?
  2. Where did you run through the Firewall ?

Great writeup! I think I'm going to go this route in mine (997.1 w/bose)...some questions for you:
  1. Does the screen dim based on the vehicle's dimmer?
  2. Does it dim sufficiently at night?
  3. Do you use hands free calling?
  4. Where did you wire the microphone?
  5. Call quality good?

1. Yes, just wire up the illumination wire that runs near the center console down low around the shifter. I think it might be an orange wire.
2. Yes, no bright LEDs or other gimmicks
3. Yes
4. Mounted it on top of the steering wheel pillar just behind the wheel
5. Not bad for a single microphone. It works OK for what it is, but will never be as good as the multi mic stock system.

This system and protocol is very different than the 997.1. Further, the 997.2 was sold with a premium vs base stereo option and the head unit in the dash, is configurable by the dealer to be either.... this activates/deactivates the pins/optical connections in the rear of the unit. Said another way, if you have a 997.2, your are in for careful analysis.

That, and for the most part, I have been happy over the 10 years with my 997.2 Bose. I put it in the "audiophile" and "surround" mode, crank up about 3 on Treble (with seems to affect the high mids more) and 2-3 on the Bass, and it's not bad at all on everything from Glen Gould to Jack White. All while cruising around town under 40mph. On the highway, with the tires and engine roaring away, I often just turn it off as it is pointless to try to compete with the car. Even the NAV is OK, but I tend to use Waze lately on my phone as a backup at least.

Any chance someone has a picture of the amp end of the Bose subwoofer wiring and guidance as to where it would come into the carpet opening under the passenger seat (997.2 coupe)? PO replaced the headunit and amp but never reconnected the sub. I'm trying to locate the wiring so I can reconnect it...

Hers the enclosure taken apart. Maybe it let's you see which side the connector is on so you can fish for the pigtail that connects to it.

Default Number of RCA cables

Nice write-up! I know this has been a few years of this post. I am interested in doing the same project on my 08 Boxster. I see at least two RCA cables in the pic. Can you share more information on what they are connected for?
