Review of snow tires on a Carrera 4
I've had a set of winter tires/wheels that I've been using for the last 2 years, but I never really drove my car in the snow.
Well, the previous week in here in NY, we got a good amount of snow.
Having just purchased a CPO 2014 BMW X5 (equipped with brand new Pirelli Scorpion All Seasons) I was eager to test out the truck in the snow.
It did well... nothing like my previous H1 Hummer, but more than acceptable.
Out of curiosity, and the fact that I had my winter tires/wheels (Pirelli SotoZero's on factory 18" Carrera III wide body wheels) on my C4, I figured that I would take her around the block and see just how well it would do.
Much to my surprise, the C4 equipped with snow tires ACTUALLY OUTPERFORMED the X5!
On the same hill, where the X5 had a bit of a struggle, I drove the C4 half way up, stopped, and then continued going up the hill with no extra effort at all.
I guess its true what they say about All-Season Tires... THEY SUCK!
I think that I will be getting a set of snow tires/wheels for the X5 soon.
I am still amazed at the difference in traction.

+1. All Seasons are really neither fish nor fowl ..... similar to 82_930, I've got all season Pirelli's on my 2012 Cayenne S and Pirelli SottoZero's as my dedicated winter tire set on my 2010 C4S. The 911 is a BEAST in the snow (as long as it's not too deep!), while the Cayenne S feels a lot less competent. Bummer, but I think I'll need to pick up a winter set for the PiG as well
