997 vs 997.2: worth $10k?
It seems like the average upgrade price to from, say a 2008 to a 2009, similarly spec'd car, is $10k. That is approximately 20-25% of the price of a fairly low mileage, well-kept 911.
Question: is the performance difference and value worth $10k? Assuming a late model, non IMS related 997, vs the same 997.2? Who has owned or driven both back to back? |
I've had both and say yes its worth it. Had a 997.14S and now a 997.74S. I will say the .1 had a bit more of a raw feel than the .2 has though.

It's not so much the performance as it is just a better engineered engine, & further developed PASM.

If you want a manual transmission you are mainly getting the engine which is fuel injected and availability of more options. The 997.2 can give you cooled seats, usb access, heated steering wheel, LED lights which weren't available in the 997.1 but but most of which can be fitted
For automatic transmission drivers people say the PDK is a much better transmission which started with he 997.2. |
10k yes worth every penny... I wish it were 10k difference when I had purchased.

Base 991 equal in cost and a huge step up in cabin, not even a contest. That said I kept the 997.

I have owned both and would buy either again. Ordered both from the factory. Drove the first one 19,000 miles, then bought the second which currently has 96,000 on the clock. Both were the C2S.
Were I to order another I would give equal consideration to the base Carrera along with any Boxster or Cayman, GT3, GT4, 944, 924, 914... |

If you're looking at auto vs pdk, def worth the 10k when combined with engine, better tech and newness. For manual, might be less compelling, but I didn't have a choice given wife situation.

I've driven them both back to back in search of my 911 C2S. 10k is not even close to worth it imo. I bought my 997.1 because it felt more visceral. It had more grunt and it felt tighter. The clutch felt better and the car was overall more responsive and fun to drive. It did come with a Borla exhaust which probably accounts for some of that though.
Cornering, acceleration, feel, sound...all better in my .1 than the .2s I tested. Your mileage may vary. |
Yes.
|
For me yes
|
Yes, it's worth it.
|
Had both- yes
|
It's worth it for the more reliable and more powerful DFI engine...
