997.2 Debris in Oil Filter? Anyone?
2009 C2S 105K miles
Oh my dear neurotic brain......
So, did anyone with a 997.2, the newer engine, ever find debris in their oil filters? My filters have been clean with, no chunks, grit, sparkly things, and not even an occasional stray small mouse.
I purchased my car with 26K miles and now have around 105K and have always done my my oil changes. I also installed a neuro-magnetic-sis drain plug. I never saw any debris of any king in my filter nor on my drain plug. And I do look closely every change. What I do get on my drain plug is a thin, fine, black "grease" which I suspect is micro-metallic particulates in oil. But it has no gritty feel at all.
What are you finding? Chunks? Shrapnel? Lost socks? Grapefruits?
Peace

The super fine metallic grease is all right. I get a little bit of it every time. That's just normal engine wear. Larger chunks (0.20 mm or bigger, you shouldn't be able to see individual fragments) means there's a problem. Cut open the filter too. The inside of the filter is where the debris should be. If there are no larger fragments, it's fine. A pic would help.
I also send the oil for analysis to Blackstone every time I change it. Comes back clean every time (no water, no gas, no particulates, high additives, good viscosity, minimal metals).
Sounds like you shouldn't worry.

+1 on the following:

2010 C4S with 90K miles now (getting to under 2K a month as I try to spend less time in the office and Pam has her GLA45). Same result on the oil. I'm not saying anything else for fear of hexxing things 8)

After buying my 08' C4S I immediately re-routed an oil passage into a clear tube that runs through the cabin. The tube is lined with magnets and a microscope so I can look for fragments at stoplights (i must admit I sometimes peek while making fast left turns into oncoming traffic).
I've added magnets to the gas filler tube as well and am contemplating an additional 10 liter oil tank in the frunk area that can be swapped out at the earliest sign of contamination.
So far, no issues.

You could try a FilterMag if you want a better shot at collecting ferrous bits.

Same results here. These cars are amazing.

Have a 997.1 S with 70K miles. Due to potential IMS issues I switched to LNEngineering spin on adapter and filter mag and have a Blackstone analysis with every oil change. I always get a bit of the "particulate grease" but the analysis results are good.

2011 carrera. Didn't look after the first oil change at 2500mi because I didn't want to know. Now have 40,000mi and changed twice a year since then and have never seen anything.

2010 C4S, 90K+ miles ...
Oil changes every 5K.
No debris in filter.
Oil remains clean.
For the 55K I've had stewardship, oil in has equaled oil out.
Smoke at start up only if I park at a sideways angle after the car is fully run.
DD with 50 miles a day commuting.
Twisties 3 to 8 times a month for some hours each outing.
Trips up to 3,500 miles (8 days).
Frequent 1,000 mile trips until recently.
Maintenance so far ...
Oil every 5K miles
Front tires every 35K miles.
Rear tires every 25K miles.
One alignment.
One front axle seal.
Front rotors, pads, sensors, hardware.
Brake flush.
Air filters two times.
Cabin filter two times.
Wipers one time.
PDK oil change with pan.
AWD controller oil change.
Spark plugs.
Maintenance due ...
Spark plugs.
Oil change.
Brake flush.
My mods ...
Clear front corners.
Lit door sills.
Projector door lamps.
TPC DSC box.
ProClip mount.
Fister with ceramic coating.
Overall, so far, knock on wood, this has been a great car!!!

Oops, you caught me. My History Book is at home so I'm going off of memory.
I changed the belt at 60K miles, but forgot to list it. The original belt was virtually brand new still. The same was true for a friend's belt I swapped out.
In both cases the tensioning pulleys were also fine.
Still on the original water pump. I haven't heard of any problems with these on the 9A1 motor.
Also still on the original motor mounts. I had those on my to do list until I installed the DSC.
A friend warned me of the possibility of the cam chain guide block going bad and needing to be replaced. My motor sounds great. I haven't investigated this (yet).
