$40k-50k range: 997.2 C2 or 997.1 C2S?

Difficult call for me.
One thing I do want to point out is that the .2 interior is not just "upgraded" with some nav features etc (which I don't realllly care about) but has a much improved quality of control surfaces (the paint wearing off issue of the .1s). They age much, much better than the .1 cars. Small point, but more important for me than the actual tech.
The biggest improvement is getting the DFI engine and improved suspension setup.

I had a 2007 C4S, then a CTSV, and now a 2009 C4S. I modded the .1S with exhaust, tune, air filter, GT3 TB and plenum and tune. In theory, those mods made me close to the .2S power levels. I traded the .1S when it was starting to drink too much oil. So the .2S pulls harder than the .1S, it has the BMC filters and X pipe. Unmodded the .2S still pulled a bit harder than the modded .1S. The suspension on the .2S feels better and more planted, as the .2S was tweaked a bit and it has the 4WD system from the turbo and its got the LSD too with the TT brakes too. I think I would still take a 1S over a base 2 though, given the right deal and them mod the .1S a bit.

Owned a 997.2 2009 model year. Great car. Might even be the best 911 ever built. 997.2 is special. Problem is they are harder to find. That year piggybacked off the great recession and production numbers are real low. Production numbers didn't really come back until the 991 was released in mid 2012. Really miss mine.

Well, Mickfluff has a .1 and I have a .2, so take each of our opinions with that fact in mind. We've each made up our own minds and don't mind telling everyone what we think.
The only thing I will add is that if the OP is finding that .1S cars are cheaper and better equipped than .2 cars for the same money, then my theory on resale value is being verified.
I say this because when I bought my .2 about 4.5 years ago, .1S and .2 cars were priced similarly. Yes, there was a bit of a premium for the .2 but it wasn't a lot and there were plenty of .1S cars that were priced higher than my car. My car was highly optioned and there were plenty of .1S cars out there that were listed for the same kind of money.
If a heavily equipped .1S is comparable in price to a stripper .2, then either the OP isn't looking in the right places or maybe the .1's are depreciating faster?

If anyone's goal is a long term hold is for appreciation value (like the air cooled world) then one thing is for certain. The base cars never ever ever carry the collector premiums. 993Turbo used 150K, a 993TTs 350-450K. A base 993 45-60K...... a 993s 75-110K+... Base 964 40-60K.... any none base model 964 double that! 996 Base car? These are sometimes half the price of a c4s 996. If someone is convinced the 997 will someday go up in value greatly get a 997.2s... or even a GTS but costs will be more then a 997.2 base or a loaded 997.1s that is for certain.
Look at the base 997.1 cars compared to the 997.1s cars today... the 997 base prices are insanely low compared to the S.
IMO These 997 cars are pretty much mass produced compared to air cooled cars so likely we have some time before they go up! The 996 cars are likely a better example and history tells us the base 996 cars held their value for certain time then sank swiftly where the Turbo and even the c4s holding value and even climbing a bit slowly.
997.2 is an amazing car but if someones goal is appreciation or concerned about depreciation don't be. These are not new cars where you can loose 40K in three years depreciating and they are not limited number creations so a possible price surge like the air cooled cars had also likely far off (real far off) in the distance... by then hopefully owners would have enjoyed owning many P cars.
I am NOT knocking a 997.2 by any means but think a lower mileage 997.1s well optioned and right miles is closing in on its bottom where 997.2 base may dip a bit more.
cant go wrong with either, buy whats important to you.

All things considered, at a given price point, what would you rather own?
997.2 C2, around 40k miles
997.1 C2S, around 40k miles.
Most of the C2S I see are upgraded (SC, PASM, leather) while the C2's are mostly pretty bare bones.
Looking at both coupes and cabs. My wife would look better driving the cab, everyone loves a tall blonde in a Porsche. It doesn't matter to me personally though.
looking at manuals mostly. Interested in performance primarily, I know the NAV will be ancient on both models, who cares, my truck doesn't have NAV, its 15 years old.
Seems most 2009+ C2S models are bumping up against my ceiling with fairly low miles. In an ideal world, I drive a low mileage 997 Turbo 6MT, but not much under $70k out there!

- Pick your MUST-HAVE features FIRST. Things like leather interior, PASM, PDK,GPS/Audio features, etc...
- Based on the must have features, you MAY be able to discard one option over another quickly. For example, if you must have the latest GPS/BT/iPhone connectivity, 997.2 is your only option, same with PDK
- If you then have both .1 and .2 as options, PICK THE one you from options available YOU LOVE the most! Both 2007+ 997.1 and C2 997.2s are great cars, and very similar, the choice then it quite personal
Good luck!

I was comparing the .1S to the base .2. The Base .2 is going to run $5-8k more it looks like, especially a 2010-2012 example. There aren't that many around. It would be sweet to score a 997.2 6mt with PSE and better suspension, upgraded leather is nice too, for $45k. There just aren't many options

BTW, I've had my 997.2 base for a year and a half and I couldn't be happier. Don't miss for one second that I didn't get the S or GTS.
Good luck with your search.

had a .1 right before my .2 and if the money is close, .2 is the way to go. The electronics are WAY more modern. if you need auto - get a PDK its light years ahead of the tip. really no comparison. if you dont care about either, get it for lack of IMS - that should be reason enough. My car is now for sale bc I miss the downshift rev matching growl...

So, let's get to the heart of the matter. What are your four or five hot buttons?
If it's only price, then you will almost always get more for less by going with an older car. That's not just because of the difference between a .1 and a .2, that's just how it is.
Do you want a .2 and are just trying to justify spending more?
Are you going to race the car or just drive it for fun?
What one person appreciates as a performance car, another person sees as rough riding and loud. Where one person sees a comfortable GT car, another sees as an overly expensive, heavy sled.
