Default Transfer case leak

At a recent oil change the service tech on my 09 c4s with 42k informed me that I had a oil leak in the front transfer case. I said well fix it. OK he said let me look up the parts. The service tech returned and said, that will be $9000 plus change. On this certified pre-owned Porsche I said would you like my credit card number now or later. At this top notch Porsche dealership I was impressed. I wonder if they would take my exwife as first payment.

Right, and then fix it for a few hundred or so and sell it CPO and make lost of money own it, while giving you nothing in for its trade value.....since it needs a 9K repair..........thats what some dealers do......Go to a Indy shop.

Nah......it was the Bentley his wife was driving when she dropped him off.....

On a side note ..when my wife took her 12 Cayenne in for a Dealer oil change (she won't let me touch her P) the SA said not to worry, but her brake light will come on soon which means she will need to get her brakes done within a few thousand Km's....(note ...She has 94,000 kms on original pads)......I respect these guys

All that is put forward in reply is correct. I marvel at the wisdom here always have. Re guarding dress code. Well, old sweater with stain developed when upper and lower denture fell out and left food stain. Otherwise cool. Waiting to see what they come up with. Porsche used car sales personal are of a heigher order and well dressed and to be trusted as far as you know what.

I hope that your derogatory comment about Porsche used car sales was in jest or just plain sarcasm rather than an indictment of ALL Porsche used car sales personnel. After I retired I sold Porsche Cars for 6+ years and, like other persons in our dealership, didn't deserve your caustic comment

Rofl 9,000 for transfer case seal replacement. Yeah uh no!
Don't worry even if you had a corvette, corvettes get corvette pricing at Chevrolet dealerships lol... arm yourself with knowledge and just smile leave.. go to an Indy or another respective Porsche dealership.
I always give Porsche dealerships a chance, plenty around that are good people with factory trained techs amongst the scumbags.

Good experiences so far sunset Porsche Portland..

If it's leaking at the axle seals (which looked a bit oily on mine when I changed the diff oil), those are $30 each. You'd also need new circlips for the output shafts ($4 each), and possibly a top up on the oil. Remove axle shafts, pop out output shafts, pop out seals, press in new ones, swap circlips, pop back in output shafts, reattach axles, check oil level. If it's leaking somewhere else, you'd probably need to drop the assembly to work on it which would take more time and you might have to source or make your own seals, but it looks like there would only be a few more seals where it could leak.

With 38 years in the Porsche buying and selling world, with experience in the Porsche used cars at delaers and Exotic car dealerships that sell Porsche's, I would say 90% of new and used Porsche salepeople only give a sh:t about their wallet. Similar to the 100% of all other car model salepeople. On 2nd thought, Make that 95% of Used Porsche Salespeople

The other alternative if in fact the transfer case leak turns out to be super expensive repair is to remove it completely (and convert to 2 wheel drive) or purchase a used case with warranty.
Several 4 & 4S owners have removed their transfer case. Something I would never do. The all wheel drive is something I really prefer.
