Default Late intro: 1st 997

People of RL:
Finally have a few mins to do a proper intro:

I picked up my 06 997 S a couple months ago.. after looking for a LONG time. I had a 996 TT with bigger turbo's, meth, ethanol, etc.. Its was scary fast, but hard to drive around town. I was always scared of putting a ton of miles and driving it around town

This time I went for a S model with some miles on it.. Its my winter beater! Not the prettiest car, but had all the options and upgrades I was looking for, pulls HARD, and is bone dry. Did a deep PPI and it came back with flying colors..

It has some minor annoying issues, but ill get through those.
Car came with Fab Speed headers, cats, exhaust, TB, intake, Lowered on H&R,

The PO left the car in the sun, so there is some paint fading. I think they also had a really high end stereo installed, but did a bad job of putting the car back together. So I am on a mission to de-rattle the car..

So far, I put new tires, starter, replaced some of the rubber weatherstripping, 40 hour paint detail, new battery, and changed all the fluids. I ordered all the belt driven accessories and plan to swap those out in the coming weeks.
Im going to put a GT3 bumper and wing on eventually and maybe wrap it.

Im live in Chicago and look forward to connecting!

Those pics look super familiar...maybe I saw them on cars.com or something

Grats on the ride!

I'm in the burbs myself but my baby is garaged for the winter.

Sweet winter-beater! Nice wheels, paint looks amazing, the right seats and is that a fatty grip steering wheel?

You could do worse!

Can you write a little bit about the 40 hour paint detail ? Is it about doing a panel a day, or is it a process that has lots of wait time between 'curing' treatments or ? Any pix from before the detail?

Engine sounds SET up, and looks like you're getting right after the wear stuff too - I wonder since it's got headers, cats, TB/Intake (Plenum too?) - does it have a tune? Because if it pulls now, and it doesn't have a tune ...imagine?

Welcome to the board and thanks for a great intro!

Good eye on the steering wheel, it is the fatter one, Alcantara, but its worn, so I have to figure something out. My PPI guys said he was almost positive it was tuned, otherwise it would throw codes for the cats, headers, etc.

The car had OLD clear bra baked on the mirrors, door handles, and some other spots, so it took me a bunch of time to get that off.

After that it was: wash, clay, wash, #5, #3, #1, polish/Sealer, Wax. it came out nice, but there's still some work left to do. The roof has the most sun damage, it looks better, but still there..

It looks great in pix!

Do you have favorite washes, waxed and sealers?

If you wrap, what color would you do?

Sweet, congrats and welcome! Great group of people here. Car looks great for 11+ years old and I'm guessing the Fabspeed exhaust sounds great. I have a 2005 with their headers mounted to a Kreissieg valvtronic exhaust and the sound is intoxicating.

Curious as an owner of a car of a similar year with similiar Mod(s) - Are you willing to share the purchase price?

I got it in the very low 30's, but did $4K of maintenance before I ever saw it. Tires, starter, all fluids, and some other minor stuff. I think the next round will be around coming up will be another $4K too (clutch, brakes, etc..)

Car sounds awesome, although there is only a small difference in sound when sport mode is on.. It's throatier , but not as big of a volume change. I just wanted a solid foundation..I can build around

I love the race pedigree of Mexico Blue, but I saw a flat gun metal i thought looked great too..

I bought this kit for my MB SUV, its, good, but I wish i got a more aggressive package.. You can still see some imperfections on every car i've done. I think they package these kits very conservatively so first time users dont destroy their cars
