Default Cold temp, full steering lock, backup on uneven surface, skipping noise

Hoping someone can help me pin point this stuttering (almost sounded like rubber cracking) noise from the front right suspension ? steering ? I don't know. tire skips a bit too when it happens ....

The stuttering noise (tire skipping) ONLY happens when the outside temp is cold + wet (41F) and I have the steering at full lock backing up on an uneven surface.... I can't recreate it if I drove for a while, it happen only after I parked the car for a while.

Usual suspect: LCA ? tie-rod ? but I don't want to randomly replacing parts...
I already tested with new end-links and it didn't eliminate the noise. TIA

I thought that skipping was normal.

Wide, cold tires, combined with wet surface and the wheels at full lock will cause the tires to skip.

What you describe sounds like oversteer, just in reverse. This happens to me at or near full lock in my parking garage. The floor is painted and slippery. The fronts skip a lot.

Plus, if you think about the geometry, turning your front wheels to full lock changes the effective wheelbase of the front axle (it narrows it significantly). For the car to move any distance, one of the front tires is going to have to lose traction and hop a bit.

I always had that noise from when I got the car many years ago but I learned to ignore for a few years and it is now bothering me again.

Reading that this is normal is reassuring so I will just ignore it for a few more years until I got curious (or paranoid) again.

Rennlist rocks Thanks guys.

My C2S did that in reverse at full lock as well.
Do take a moment and check all your suspension components. That is just a seasonal.
Wheel camber exacerbates the effect, and worn strut bearings... maybe a groan from them.
Normal tire skip to me. Noticed my STi doing it too the other day.

My STi never do that and neither does my other car. The 997 is the only car I have / had that's doing this and I have had 15+ cars over the years

Nick Murray's channel mentions this phenomenon in his "5 things Porsche 911 owners should know"

I seemed to first notice it when I got Winter Tires.
I'll report what happens when I get my summer slicks on
