Does your RPM needle have a stiffy?
Friends, Porschephiles, Gentlemen, lend me your ears as I have a question, and if this question has been answered previously, please feel free to stone me down.
Vehicle: 2007 / 997.1 / 49K Kms
Have noticed a tremor in my RPM needle during idle (engine at optimal running temp), not sure if I just didn't notice it before but it bothers me. Very recently, I replaced the air filter with a BMC race filter and replaced the dual air-intake configuration from the airbox to the engine with a single hose. Not sure if the tremor existed previously but if it did I'm quite sure I would have noticed.
Anyone have some insight on this situation, is your RMP needle supposed to stay rock solid during idle (it does on all my motorcycles)? Is this due to a tuning issue now that I have a cold air kit? Is this a sign of something that probably needs to be looked at before something horribly goes wrong?
Much appreciate any input. Thanks in advance.
Happy Halloween & Happy Diwali (to my brown peeps)!!!

besides the obvious movement when the car is first started.. mine tends to have a wiggle sometimes when I first start it after having driven from point a to point b sometimes.. for example;
get on the highway and drive 30 minutes then stop for gas, turn the car off at the pump, pump the gas, turn the car back on.. needle wagging a little bit 100rpm movement. Then it settles down in about 15 seconds or less.

I think the tach in these cars are more precise hence it's showing every little change in RPM. If you looked at the RPM's of any car the engine doesn't exactly stay at any particular rpm. I think the revs gauges are actually smoothed out to prevent you from seeing a bunch of tiny movements like you see in your Porsche to make the owner "feel better".

When I bought my (used) 2010 C4S Manual it had a slight RPM tremor at idle, which everyone said it was normal, which got worse over the year till it was an "idle hunting" problem. Like up and down 100RPM! After a week diagnosing everything at the dealer they changed the throttle body and it has been rock solid/stiff since! The servo motor and/or gear in the throttle body had developed a strange play in it where the air vane was almost loose and allowing different amounts of air in. I would say it is not normal for the RPM needle to move at all. Unless it is AC on/off or you messed with airbox.

I did mess with the airbox and am quite sure I would have noticed the wobble had it occurred previously. Maybe having changed the air filter & adding a cold air hose might have caused an uneven air / fuel combo.
