Help me think of a daily driver

Two options:
1) if you want your 997 as a garage queen and resale value is your main concern, then, yes get another vehicle.
2) if you plan on keeping the car, then the best daily driver I can think of is a 997. IF for no other reason than the shear pleasure of driving a Porsche every chance you can.
I'm on my 3rd 911. My 911SC went 375,410 miles before the #2 cylinder lost compression, replaced it with a 996 only to suffer IMS failure at 102,000 miles (otherwise I'd still be driving it). I plan to drive my 997 into the ground (or at least another 10+ years, which ever comes first). The enjoyment I get from driving to the supermarket isn't quite as much as from a 5,500 mile road trip, but I still enjoy it (and enjoy the occasion accolade form passersby).
My recommendation: go with option 2)

You asked about cars as dd's so you could preserve miles on your 997, not about what the best car is to move people and haul stuff from HD
And PS if you had of searched a bit you will see this topic has been beaten to death

I have had the Audi A4 and BMW 328. I now have a Honda Accord and like it better. Much roomier, gets avg. 33mpg, looks great and maintenance is non existent. It was before the new sports came out so I had to lower and put wheels on it but those new sports are solid.
It's not as sporty but if you can get a v6 you will be surprised. The sports come in a manual which adds a little enjoyment.
If your an AWD fan the A4 is the route to go. That car in snow tires is awesome.

With me the 2nd vehicle would end up being the one getting no mileage put on it except for HD runs. I'd look at it every morning, go oh hell no, and drive away in the 911. When I need a 5 passenger car I take my wife's E-Class diesel. The rear seats fold down if I ever needed to haul a couple sheets of plywood.

Pick up a used/unmolested Subaru WRX/STi in the price range (checks all the categories you specified):
Cost around $20k or less
4+ doors
Comfortable/nice interior
Somewhat sporty
Bonus points for being able to haul stuff (not opposed to small SUV)

I have a 2011 335i sedan (E90) for my daily. Does the job well. My first ever car with an auto tranny. I had a 2007 E90 335 that I got rid of to get my 997. I use the 335 for my daily and hauling the family around. I use the 997 on weekends or after work when I feel like going for a cruise. Also have a modified B5 Audi S4 that I drive as well. Like someone said previously, the AWD is nice in bad weather or slick road surfaces.

Honda odyssey should suck all automotive passion out of you.
Lots of space for people and Home Depot runs.
Next will be. Thinking of selling my 997, because I'm not driving it enough.
Used my 997 for HD runs, Meals on wheels delivery, and road side assistance.
You must fight the urge for a people mover.

RS4? if you want a car?
Love the F150 idea (maybe a raptor). I once had a 2003 Carrera and an F250 diesel at the same time. Polar opposites, but I loved that set up.
Older Cayenne?
Touraeg?
