I'm in for 20L. Will check with Motul on authenticity before I use it.

Last two times I ordered the 5 liter 4 pack jugs the containers came in a Motul box, I have doubts that these are genuine... Too good to be true.

Motul is certified to ISO 9001. According to our quality procedure, Motul products are guaranteed for two years after their production date. To ensure the validity of this guarantee, a reference sample of each production batch is kept systematically and checked on a scheduled basis.

Well I did get 4 jugs in an Amazon box shrink wrapped together.
Production date on jugs March 2014, so it looks like a liquidation sale to move out old stock before it expires IMO. But still..

Wonder why the label on the 'deal' oil is different from the other 8100"s

Just looked at an old bottle in my garage. It's dated 9/14 and has the label on the bottom bottle of the pic.
Maybe newer oil got an updated graphic design?

I don't mind using older "new" oil. My fear was that it was a knock-off or used oil repackaged.
I ordered it Wed & with Prime it arrived today. All 4 large bottles beaten up but in-tact.

What is it that make us feel good by saving a few dollars? Maybe it's like getting a free bottle of bourbon with the order
Cheers !

These photos tell it all, would you be able to spot a fake container from original?

I am sure the expired oil is just fine...but after viewing endless conversations/debates about the best brand, viscosity, change intervals, filter type, operating temperature, etc., etc., I am surprised anyone is taking the chance.

Thanks for sharing! I'll totally be throwing this in our Golf, if nothing else, at this price. Interesting, on the description page it offers alternate sellers that are even a bit cheaper. I stuck with the Amazon Prime, though, just for reducing hassle if it ends up being not legit.

I spoke with Yvette, one of the managers at Motul USA in Cypress Calif, sent her about a dozen high resolution photographs, and the production numbers. She said the font's, jug, label, pour cap, basically everything looked very authentic. She couldn't verify the production numbers but and i would have to contact the Motul in France to verify but she said they look very familiar.

She did confirm a 2 year expiration from production date. It looks like "911Finally" may have received a few expired bottles. But if they're stored properly, i wouldn't bat an eye at using expired product. As a matter of fact, i read a few articles on BITOG where a (supposed) retired Mobil chemist did a test on 22 year old motor oil and it tested as new. Obviously new motor oil is superior to 22 year old oil but that shows motor oil doesn't really have a shelf life. If anything, i would shake the bottle up to make sure the viscosity index improvers and other additives are properly mixed, though it's highly unlikely it'll separate.

I would say it's the opposite. The official Motul USA and FR websites show the same graphic as the last bottle in your picture

Just as a heads up. I order 5 of these 4-packs from an Amazon seller at $50 for each four pack. The seller only sent me 5 of the jugs (I should have gotten 20). He claimed it was a listing error. I had to fight with him and Amazon and eventually after many threats on my part about deceptive business practices Amazon refunded my money and told me to keep the 5 jugs the seller sent. This was about 2 weeks ago so be careful guys. I think it is hit or miss depending on the seller.

I ordered 2 days ago and I did receive 4 jugs of 5 liter 5W40 today. Yes, manufacture date was 2/5/14. I don't think its a big deal, it's synthetic oil, and I wouldn't worry about having it expire unless it was already opened or used. It's still a good deal I think.

Keep in mind the production date reads day/month/year so "02 05 14" means May 2, 2014

I'm not too concerned about an shelf expiration. I read a bunch of data sheets from many companies and they say oil at 5 years tests the same as long as moisture and dirt hasn't gotten in. And that's for regular oil. Synthetic is stable much longer. I'll ask you, up until today, in your whole life have you EVER looked for an expiration date on a bottle of oil? I would assume the dollar stores and flea markets have tons of that stuff. I doubt it goes bad in 10 years. I certainly will send Blackstone a sample after I run a few thousand miles on it. I actually drank a quart and it tastes no different than the fresh stuff.
