Default Topping off coolant

Guys,

My coolant is a little below the MIN mark, so I need to top it off. The manual of course says that I must use Porsche specific coolant and since I will be mixing it, I thought I would ask if anyone follows that guideline? Can I just go buy regular coolant from Pep Boys and not have to go to the dealer?

Thanks.

Just use straight distilled water. How much is needed?

Do NOT mix & match coolants.

It's only about a half inch below the Min line.

Use distilled water. 12 ounces of distilled water won't matter to 6 gallons of coolant in your system.

Here's an interesting read from Pedro's Garage.

Never understood the need to "top-off" - the system holds almost 8.5 gallons so I'm not sure being down 6 ounces is a big deal.

I think the big deal is not so much the volume of coolant that is absorbing and throwing off heat, as it is the volume of air in the system which impacts overall system pressure. Coolant is too full, it increases system pressure, if coolant too low, it reduces pressure.

Setting the coolant level to a fixed marker also helps to monitor fluid level. And some people just like to be exact. Same for oil level.
