Need 997 purchase advice
I'm usually on the 993 forum but I have a friend who wants to join the 997 ranks on his first 911 purchase. I'll cut to the chase here with the attached link. It's a 2008 targa with one major caveat. The engine was replaced at 22K miles and don't know why. http://www.highlineautosales.com/web...nois/30149327/
Since I don't know much about the IMS problem I'll assume this was one of its issues. He loves the targa and loves the cobalt scheme.
Thoughts?

That's a lot of money for a tiptronic, and on top of that it's a tiptronic with no service history and a swapped engine and being sold by a used car dealer who can't even list it correctly, it's a "Porsche 911 4"?? Where's the options list? Prolly best to burn that one with fire

If the engine was replaced by Porsche.....thats a good thing. Besides, it will be a 12k motor with IMS upgrades.
If he is happy with the color combo and configuration, its a personal decision. It all comes down to if the car calls to him. If he is making a compromise, then he should walk.

The car has a few strikes against it that might make reselling it someday a challenge. But, If he would plan on keeping the car for a while and is specifically searching for a tiptronic, then it very well might be the car for him.
Oh, and I personally wouldn't be put off about the engine replacement as long as it's checks out with an independent PPI. That said, I can see how this fact could deter potential buyers, hence the added risk reselling it someday.

Looks like a nice car. Not too many cobalt blue Targa 4s out there so if this is a must have combo you likely won't find many others. New engine no big deal if replaced new under warranty with documentation.
