look like coolant leak. If it's driver side, possible a tank crack. Mid engine, maybe water pump?

Taste test

If the liquid tastes sweet, it's ethylene glycol based coolant and you have definitely diagnosed the problem. However, fat lot of good it will do you. Ethylene giycol is the worlds most deadly poison, only letting you live long enough to scratch a note in blood on the floor, about the leak for the new owner before you die!

It's your coolant - the 997 likes to pee it out on the floor when your water pump fails.

Intresting. Speaking of which I had a 06 Cayman S and knew to swap the water pump at 50k miles. That was M97 as in 997.1. I wonder if 997.2 also needs a water pump change out???

Yes and this - if the coolant cap is loose the coolant will be boiling out all over the place, only takes a few minutes for this to happen. You should of saw steam while you were driving if this happened and you would of definitely smelled that distinctive sweet burn smell.

Could be the coolant tank (top left in the engine compartment). They are known to crack and leak slightly. I changed mine at around 70k miles. Could also be just the cap which has a newer version that is less prone to leak. The way to tell is the cap is if there is fluid leaking from the drain tube near driver side muffler, or visible in the catch area of the tank by the cap.

The gasket on the coolant tank cap gets old and shrinks, when it does no amount of tightening will seal it. So you can see spots of white around the edges of the cap under it on the tank. Thats dried coolant vapor or liquid. Simple easy fix and cheap, call Suncoast. Put a new one on, if its still leaking and you smell coolant, which has a very specifric odor, then do more investigations. The coolant tank, from the DIY in here, is a bit harder to do. I think you need to take things off or slightly lower the engine. It does not just slip out. Its alot bigger than you think and most of it is hiden from view. Just like its Audi cousins, I think they should be replaced after 7 years or so, coming from a B6 S4. Even if the manual does not show it to be a wear item.
