IMO, driving the R8 is an "event". The 997 is a great driver and much better suited for daily
use. The Carrera feels much lighter and requires less work to drive well. The R8 certainly attracts more attention.

Para82- Do you currently own your 997?
Would you be buying or leasing your R8?
I'm under the rule of, I own cars I love, and rent the ones I'm not sure about?

I own the 997 - paid 51k cash in 2009 so if I could get low 30's to mid 30's for it now i'd be very happy. Interesting idea on the lease - do they lease 2010 models at dealers?

I have lot of friends in Tesla's.
"Oh they are great cars...blah blah blah".
Non of them have bought them.
They are all leased and going back at the end of their 36 or 48.
You buy a good car, because you trust/best guess your purchase.
R8 are still stupid expensive up here.
Ya'll.....75-85k usd?
Not a good example ... http://www.offleaseonly.com/used-car...g6cn002927.htm

So from a cost perspective that would be a good comparison.

Yeah, that's what I am trying to say, but the R8 is more exotic so I don't think it's that much to pay $75 to $85K for a used exotic with low miles. The GTS is obviously more practical but the R8 will be more fun (an event like one of the members said) when you do take it out.

Seeing the 2010 997.2. C4S nice examples in the mid 50 range is a lot of car for the money - the R8 is going to have be almost twice as good to pay 80k for a nice example. The idea of not having a 911 has already been giving me some slight anxiety. Maybe the GT350 should be the one to trade in (though i'm having way too much fun with it right now and it will run circles around the R8 on a track) so that's not leaving my garage anytime soon.
Here's a question - how much more depreciation you guys think is left in these R8 V8 examples?
