Default Smoked LED tail lights failed state inspection

Anyone else with smoked LED tail tight fail their state inspection? Had my car inspected this morning & the new tech guy say he couldn't pass it cause the brake light was not bright enough. Arrggg, went home & put the stock back on. So I took the car back & my regular tech guy was working on it. He told me next time just ask for him & he would take care of me. Now I'm contemplating if I should put the smoked LEDs back on. Or go with the regular LEDs. The more I looked at the stock light. I'm starting to like it or I'm crazy

I personally like black better

I use a foil on mine

if you decide to keep the OEM lights and do not want to keep the black hit me up
perhaps we can make a deal

this is how mine looks at this time

I think the stock light look the best on the 997.1, especially the solid red version.

I'm sure RAC would have passed it.

I don't know why you guys mess around with that stuff. You're just asking to get pulled over. Stock looks best imo.

Stock looks best and it's a lot less hassle.

On the other hand I have French headlights on my long-hood. Yes, I have been pulled over.

I was using my headlights in the very early morning. I got pulled over and got a lecture about only using my parking lights at dawn. The trooper said I should have had my headlights on. I decided not to explain about which light was which. I just took the ticket and moved on.

Smoke lights are a safety issue for me. As the tech said not bright enough. From the drivers perceptive behind you the smoke lights dim the overall brightness of the brakes lights. I personally would never smoke my lights to dim them. Asking for trouble.

I brought my 997.1 to the CHP after the smoked lights were installed and asked if these were going to be an issue...at first they said it would be a problem as tinting was a no no... However, these are not tinted and have the DOT stamp on them...then they measured the light output and it met all DOT standards, so all OK.

Have had them on now for about 2 years and no issues with CHP or city police.

I like the light smoke look more than the blacked out one. The Dectanes on my silver car are exactly the right balance of looks and functionality and they are way brighter than the stock taillights. Unfortunately they've discontinued this option.

On my 928 I put the lightest film on them just to knock down the vibrancy of the colored plastic against the black car. That film is actually called clear but has a really light tint to it.

Not a fan of smoked lights. I see lights like I see eyes. I don't want to see a girl with beautiful eyes covered with sunglasses.
