Default Parking with blinker on

Is this designed on purpose or is it an anomaly with my car. If I park with my blinker on, the light stays on when the car is turned off.

If it is on purpose what is the reasoning?

Parking light. I guess to mark your car on narrow street, sticking out, etc. Common on European cars.

As I understand it, in Europe's small towns with narrow roads, if one parks on the side of a road (to go into a pub, etc) for a couple of hrs, one leaves the outboard light on as you've noticed, especially on foggy evenings, to help prevent being rear ended. I read that in my owners manual of a previously owned 87 Mercedes.

Parking at night on a dark narrow street, leaving the outside parking light on reduces the risk of getting hit. This has been a standard in Europe for a very long time. It had been slow to catch on in the USA.

There are other things as well. I was being driven down a narrow lane on the outskirts of London 30 some years ago when a car turned onto the road heading in our direction. My driver turned off his headlights (leaving the parking lights on) and continued onward. This was to avoid blinding the other driver and potentially create an accident. The other driver did the same. It makes sense when you think about it. It also points to the need for the cars parked at the curb to be lit.

Thanks for the info. I take it that this doesn't drain the battery very much.

LED's draw very little power - should be good for more than 12 hours.

I would think.... just a hunch.... the computer shuts it down before the battery dies.

Parking light standard on my MBZ. Now I am interested to go check the PCar for this option. I love the idea.

In the 996, that feature was there also, it was just selected by the light switch (via little arrows), not the turn signal indicator.

This feature has been on Porsches since maybe the beginning. My 73 & 74 914s both had it, along with my '79 928, and all the newer cars.

I have used it but rarely..... why? Well.... I used it when going to parties where parking was jammed up and my car was vulnerable... then... everyone who arrives after me comes up to me saying "hey! you left your lights on!" ... Or someone yells "Attention!!!! Who ever owns.... "

Peace

I had a friend get pulled over for having the rear fog light on in his Audi. cop thought he had issues because one light was brighter that the other.
